so i got some albums from

george smith
george harmonica smith
little george harmonica smith

are these all the same person?

I have albums of same guy using those titles,so unless there is another one out there,I don't know of, so I'd say same guy.

George Smith is quite distinctive in the way he plays. Likes to play in third for sure.
You can hear it in Kim wilsons playing, alot of that style.

They are all one and the same. If you'd like to see some footage of him playing he is on a video with the Muddy Waters band that is called "Gunsmoke." The reason it is called Gunsmoke is because it was filmed by the camera crew from an old western TV shhow called Gunsmoke. It has footage of Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner, and George Smith. Everyone should have this video. Big Mama even plays a little harp on it.

He moved to California from chicago( in the early 60's I think) and almost every great blues harp player from California sence has either worked with, studied or learned second hand from someone that did! He was that big a deal back then!!
If you'll notice almost all the California blues harpers play the chromatic and play true octaves (five holes not four like little walter did). That's because of George Smith!
