I'm interested in getting down to Brazil at some point in the next year or two. I haven't the faintest idea what festivals down there are blues-friendly and harmonica-friendly. Please share info: festivals, harmonica clubs and organizations. If you'd prefer to contact me off-list, please do so: asgussow@aol.com
Thanks in advance.

Harp players seem to work a lot with Igor Prado and his band. I think he's on Facebook. There's a lot of stuff happening there.

I often play with a brazilian guitarist/singer in Brussels. Brazilian music goes well on harp, and is very fun to play.
After a short research, I found there's a jazz-blues festival in the city of Buzios, in July, and a Gospel-Blues Festival in Guara (near Brazilia), in July too.

I have already sent an email to Adam, but I think it might be helpful to share some information here.
There are two big harmonica festival in Brazil: the "Encontro Internacional de Gaitistas" and the "Fórum Harmônica Brasil".
The first one takes place at São Paulo in about March. It is produced by Chico Blues and Flávio Guimarães. Names like Kim Wilson, Mark Ford, RJ Mischo, Rick Estrin, Steve Guyger, Mark Hummel, Mitch Kashmar, Curtis Salgado, Andy Just and others have played at this festival. No website.
The second one takes place at Fortaleza in about November. It is more focused on the Brazilian harmonica players, but opens its doors. Rick Estrin and Wim Djikgraaf are examples. The website is http://www.forumharmonicas.com.br
There are several blues-friendly festival here: http://www.jazzeblues.com.br http://www.riodasostrasjazzeblues.com http://www.petropolisjazzeblues.com.br http://www.ibitipocablues.com.br http://lencoisjazzeblues.com http://www.vijazz.com.br http://www.jazzbluespocosdecaldas.com.br http://www.mdbf.com.br/?link=home ... and many others that don't have website or that I don't know.
São Paulo has some blues clubs: http://www.bourbonstreet.com.br http://www.syndikat.com.br http://www.deltabluesbar.com.br and several other places that receive blues bands.
The blues and harmonica scene here is very good. All you need is the right contacts.
Regards from Brazil
