yo PT I will be there about 5pm...hope you have not played by then.....and I remember chicago charlie from the early 80s playing at the villager in hillsboro village...lived in madison back then....also remember rogie ray.....
I am so glad I attended this event in a small village at fairview,tennessee...as an amateur harp player I would have not wanted to be anywhere else on earth for inspiration....my only disappointment was that terry bean closed the show, there were only a handfull of people still there besides myself harpdude and donna and dave from alabama...I was as tired and cold as the rest but would have stayed until dawn to hear terry play....he was the strongest bluesman on the bill despite the world class talent that played before him...hope they have it again next year!!!
P.T. was great. He has a voice and style all his own. Loved the Irish stuff!
Jim Hoke was someone I was not familiar with but he blew me away with his acoustic playing. You can tell he enjoys playing alongside his son.
Brandon has taken his looping to another dimension. He doesn't just build anymore. He brings rhythms and licks in and out, plays and sings in unison with himself, and performs some really cool songs. Loved it!
Buddy is no doubt the one of the most talented players I have seen. He played duets with an accordion player. They did some difficult music and never missed a beat. Very enjoyable.
What can you say about Charlie McCoy. The man was so gracious. His stuff was as good as ever. He appreciates his audience and enjoys performing. Loved it!
Charlie and Buddy did a cool country duet. They played single notes in unison as well as different single notes to create quite an effect. They proved that harmonicas can be used in duets.
I don't think two harmonicas in improvised blues is a good idea. The first act up had two harp players. Both good players, but unrehearsed in playing together. Would have been more enjoyable had they split the set.
They got behind early so I too hate for those that missed Terry "Harmonica" Bean late. I felt the most at home and the most emotion when he played. He was the gut bucket blues man of the night. I have heard Terry four times over the past 4 years and he is only getting better. I don't know if being around other great players at Hill Country inspired him to woodshed or what. He was really on and the small crowd loved it. His high end playing in both first and second position was a treat. He is preparing to go to France to tour for a few weeks.
Great event. Not sure what we would have done if it rained? He wants to make it bigger next year with seminars and such.
Someone was very generous. The music was free and they cooked a whole hog. When the hog was ready they announced to line up, it's free!
Thanks for spreading the word on Terry "Harmonica" Bean. I checked out some of youtubes with him playing and it is frickin great ! He flat out lays it down in the best way......I like this one......
