I came across this recently, which has some great harp/rack harp from the Bass player Jon Paris starting about 19 min in on a couple of songs. Not often you get a Bass/Harp player so I thought I'd post it fyi.

Thanks for posting, I'm a HUGE Johnny Winter fan! I've seen him many times and NOBODY can touch Johnny when it comes to electric blues. Even Hendrix used to attend his concerts just to try and figure out what he was doing.

Does anyone have any information about the harp rack you see Jon Paris using at about the 24:30 mark? It looks like it fully encases the harp and evidently has some kind of transducer inside since he's not playing it in front of a mike but I don't see any cords. Is it wireless? The guy can definitely blow some harp.

It looked wired to me (I'm not even sure they had wireless back in 79?).

It looked like a cylinder made out of transparent plastic, I guess to muffle the frequencies a bit.
I used to have a similar kind of setup on my harp rack (with a RetroRocket) which emulates a hand cupped sound to an extent, but I've recently gone very lightweight and just use the mic on the rack now, visibility is better too.

I saw Johnny only once, at the Town & Country in London in '88 I think. Still remember that gig from the mad albino on guitar! woah!

Thanks Paul, you're probably right about the lack of wireless in 1979. Even if it was available the transmitter would most likely have been the size of a phone book. Remember the first wireless phones? Haha. I was watching the video on my phone screen and just didn't see the wire. Do you think the tube was homemade or is there someone producing a product like that today? I like how he gets a semi cupped tone and has both hands free to play the bass. I would like know where to get one or find the plans to build one.
