Rod doesn't get much attention on here. I don't know why. He's got a distinctive sound and he's been gigging longer than a lot of forum members have been alive. I've seen him live and his shows are killer. Besides Honey,he surrounds himself with top notch musicians. I've stolen a lot of licks from him. Before this resurgence of harp players(because of the Internet?), it was him,Kim,Butter and Musselwhite.

"is he playing thru a bassman or two? cant remember how long its been since he used those"
He only used those amps because the HarpKings were too expensive to lug around-he flew into Ft Lauderdale from Cali, set cruise with all the stops, then flew home to Cali-just too much moving around to fly those amps coast to coast and back.
Notice Rod still gets KILLER tone-I first met Rod and Honey at The Bottom Line in NYC-around 1990. Been watching and listening ever since-I was also fortunate enough to purchase one of Rods personal HarpKing 4x10 amps-and you know, everytime I play through it ,it seems to have a little extra mojo going on--
I was driving 4 hours yesterday. Put the iPod on shuffle. The rod piazza numbers were stand outs. I really really like his work. I'd say he is top 5 in my book. Especially his chromatic work. ----------
