For those that read my other post ..I did get to play a set and a half with Bart Walker Band and it went great. I pretty much played on everything but his originals which I did not know anyway. Super nice guy that plays out of Nashville for anyone down that way. The bummer was that Reece Wynans didn't show because of studio commitments. I would have loved to met him but him not being there enabled me to play more.

My band played at a local marina the next night to a crowd of about 300. The show went great but I got my first experience at what I think you guys call a gusser? The venue is a large covered dock and it was reported to me that some guy was playing harmonica in a hallway between the restrooms. With the layout of the stage, I could not hear or see him but the audience could.
I did not say anything when I went on break. I was having too much fun to cause a scene or let myself get upset. My wife instructed me to ignore him and that everyone was whispering about how rude this guys was.

Well, he had a few more drinks and made his way pretty much in front of the stage about 40 feet away. He knew enough to carry harps in A,C, and D so he got to play a lot. There was times when you could hear him, but ..there were so many people dancing, having fun, and the band was getting great reception, so I just ignored it.
The funny part. After the show, he came up to me and told me how much he learned by playing along with me. He said he appreciated the fact that I didn't seem to care. He said all harp players are not that kind.
Well heck! I'm not that kind either. Will this leech follow me everywhere I go? Stay tuned.
As for you guys that do this...well...you have no idea how rude the audience finds it whether they say anything or not. I may throw his harps in the lake next time if I'm having a bad night....

Since he seems to respect you, maybe you could politely school him on what is acceptable when the band is playing. I'd hate to see his passion for harp get snuffed. Is he good enough to sit in?

the drummer nodded to me to look behind me!

Ouch! Now there's the danger that he'll ask to sit if you get too friendly. Tell him, look I've been playing harp in bands for 10(lie) years. It ain't cool to play your harp while the band's playing. It makes you look like you don't know about the harp.

Might work. I hope. Good Luck!
