Was listening to compilation disc today and Snooki Pryor came on. I was really digging him so I looked him up. And found where there is a claim that Little Walter took the main riff from Snooki & Moddy's Boogie as the head to Juke. I do not have the Boogie track anywhere.
Can someone confirm or deny this?
I am incredibly curious now as to how close the riffs match heh.
One of my Facebook friends is Richard Pryor, Snooky Pryor's son. He is a harp player who lives in Carbondale, Illinois. You can probably message him and see if he has any insight.
It turns out that "Snooky and Moody's Boogie" is merely one precursor to "Juke." A far more interesting one is the Chicago jazz/blues sax player Buster "Leap Frog" Bennett.
The truth is, "Snooky and Moody's Boogie" doesn't even need to exist for Little Walter's "Juke" to exist. But "Leap Frog Blues" probably does need to exist.
Here it is, from 1945. You tell me:
Here's the Les Brown version, which was a big hit during the war:
Jimmy Rogers, who played guitar on "Juke",states Walter got the idea from Sunnyland Slims piano version of "Get Up the stairs Mademoiselle"-
