I'm a new comer so forgive my rookie enthusiasm. Thanks so much to Adam for showing the way. Am loving it. Continuing to discover new (old) harp players and building a collection for listening. What I have heard so far though makes me think we have two living gems here in Australia. One lives not for from the Otway hills where I live and plays often in the Dean's Marsh Cafe just down the road. Chris Wilson is a legend in the local scene here, I am not sure how wide his fame spreads. This rendition of "the Sky is Crying" is breathtaking (I think) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hz3k8gGTsqo&feature=related
He plays with a good friend of his and also living legend on this track from the Port Fairy Folk festival.
Thanks, Bevis. This video (the second one) is currently on the top of my list of favorites. I think the interaction between the players is fantastic!
I love how they come in on the head and then play the fills together perfectly like a horn section. And when it’s their time to play, they don’t just swap 4’s and 12’…they switch back and forth between trading fours, trading licks, playing the hook together, accompanying each other and playing melody and harmony lines for each other.
Some of the best parts for me are when one holds a nice long sustained note while the other plays melody…great egoless playing that lets two very talented musicians shine.
This shows that two harp players can be better than one.
Thanks for posting!
