I believe Sonny Boy Williams had his teeth knocked out with bar room fighting. They say it improved his harp playing because his oral cavity had more room to resonate. Is that what you were thinking of doing too?

Cool. Now you can get the harp further in your mouth!

C'mon you are a bluesman. You gotta' tell us you got it knocked out in aa tussle. LOL! If it is any consolation I have been in bed with a head and chest cold where I can barely breath at all with my asthma. Same as you I miss the practice, but my dang chest hurts so bad I can only think about that. Guess I'll have to start smokin' filters...

I agree with you - was a joke 'bout the filters. Well I do smoke cigars fairly regularly. Don't inhale intentionally tho.'

after many decades of not taking care of my teeth very well- and i have a good set- it's coming time to pay the dentist. i have 3 more that need to come out and then a lot of fillings and facing work before i can get some bridges made. and in the grim economic times we're now facing, it don't look good. still i have to do the minimum. that molar had decay at the root and was going to be trouble if i waited to get it out.

my wife a few weeks ago saw a psa about free dental care, 1 day only, at a place pretty close by, first come first served, 120 people were going to be seen. so we got up in the middle of the night and went and camped out at this dentist's office and sure enough, i got it done free.

the tooth wasn't killing me but it seemed to be one of the easy ones to have pulled, and it was. the dentist was training air force dental students and had a lot of help. at first i thought i was going to get a student doing the work but the dentist himself did the numbing and pulling. the needle hurt on the first shot but the next 2 i didn't feel hardly. the tooth coming out didn't hurt but i could feel it coming loose. my whole jaw on the right side was completely numb. the guy did a great job and we even joked around a bit although i don't quite remember what was so funny.

he wrote me a scrip for demerol since i'm allergic to codeine. i have taken a few of them just to sleep.

as far as gettin the harp in deeper i doubt this one tooth makes a difference. i would imagine that sbII likely never or hardly ever got to see a dentist, and his teeth basically just died in his mouth and fell out here and there. and no doubt he prolly had a few knocked out. maybe he had some favorite pliers, i don't know. i did read that he kept a pint of whiskey in his jacket most of the time because his teeth hurt him so bad. and think about the incredible joy he put out through his harp and vocals! that's amazing to me.

i don't do pain very well. i turn kind of surly and just want to be left alone and get the pain stopped. today, second day after having the tooth out, there is a deep but not very big pain in my jaw there. i expect it'll be a few days yet before it quits hurting at all and some time after before it heals and seals over.

jon, if you're having pain there is a reason. see your dentist again and be specific. the danger with teeth is, if one gets an abscess, and bursts, the infection is very close to the brain. the infection will also affect the sinus cavities and it ain't pretty either.

not trying to cry wolf here, i just know how serious the situation can get.

i read recently, some scientists in england are working on coming up with a way to get humans to grow a whole new set of teeth. i think when they come up with the home dyi kit i'll be sending off for it!

nah it not like constant pain or nothing. like if i look in the mirror i can see the gum still covering the tooth. its just when its comming out more or the gum is reseeding more it gets a little sore an tends to bleed. the same thing happened when my bottom wisdom teeth came in. i realy dont think its anything serious. an i have sensitive gums anyway. they bleed every time i brush my teeth.

an i thought they would put you to sleep with the gas for something like that.
