So very recently I have noticed a big problem arising and finally exploding. I'm not sure if I am crazy or not, but I do not understand the flipping out that has occurred about Chris Michalek and Christelle.
I've noticed many people being very touchy with Chris recently about his critiquing some players, mostly Christelle, and just the fact that what he says 'insults' people, or the words he says ARE 'insults.' So, that is where my confusion arises. Where did he insult ANYONE? Ever? He never did, never once, and if you think he did I personally think you're just being insulted by the truth, as his posts are honest.
On the whole Christelle problem, this little feud comes from Christelle saying she is a beginner, at least I see it coming from that, among other things. Christelle is no beginner, if she was I'd be playing like Howard Levy in the next two years. She can do things better than I CAN, at least what she does that I do not do. Why can't she be honest and say she is pretty good? Chris even knows she is good, he has said it many times, and all of his critiques towards her were not insulting, but truthful opinions of his. It is what he thinks, and there is no way he would call her a good player and even watch her videos if he didn't like her or had something against her.
And, I have to say it, but I know someone is probably going to be "oh Zack, you love Chris, you're just biased" or something like that. WRONG! For awhile I had issues with Chris, and he had the right to have issues with me, but as I read his posts and listened to what he had to say I understood that he was just brutally honest. I respect him as a person and as a player. He is one of the best. Have any of you HEARD of Howard Levy? Listen to Mr. Levy then listen to Chris. Hear the unbelievable musical virtuosity they both hold? He is THAT good. There is no way he comes on here just to get his kicks by insulting all of you, by reading his posts once through you may believe that, but listen to him, read his posts several times through. Honesty is what you will see. BRUTAL HONESTY. THE TRUTH...Not some person saying you are good. He points out the bad in you, the good, the stuff you should work on, stuff you SHOULDN'T even be attempting yet because of technique problems, and all of that other stuff.
So, whatever will happen WILL happen, but I just wanted to say I believe Chris is a great guy and a GREAT, highly important, and vital aspect and asset to this forum. If you can't respect him as a person at least respect him as a player. Take this to heart as I am finished this statement.

And also, just to clear something up, the whole 'he should have had a problem with me' thing arose from some conversations we had, and just generally how I felt later about it and then things happened. Later on I thought about it, of course, being an analytical person, I figured it out. I stand by what I said, still, and that is to respect him at least as a player.

Miles, it applies to you if you claim it. Seriously, it's not an insult, it's more of a statement of how people are acting. Ever been to a party where everyone is drunk and acting stupid? It's that kind of thing.
It's not like I'm suggesting your mother is a whore who feed you paint chips while she sat you in front ot the TV to watch seseme street.
Get real Miles, you're nit picking and generally being dumb with this one. Please stop.

Well, I guess Chris can take it.
Chris gives Christelle credit where credit is due. I was particularly happy to see him (accurately) say that Christelle is a better harpist than Ronnie Shellist.
But in spite of this, Chris comes across as a bit of a stalker where Christelle is concerned (it may be that he is being inadvertently over-zealous in trying to make amends for past criticisms; it may be that he is being zealous in order to present further criticisms in an apparently balanced way).
Chris says he is an asshole. This is not unambiguous: it is possibly just a game he plays - admit to a small shortcoming, and your bigger shortcomings will be ignored/forgiven (Barthes called it Operation Margarine). Alternatively, admit to something and pretend that thereafter you are justified in it (you hear racists say "I admit I'm a racist" as though that makes it OK)!
However, I suspect that Chris knows what I am talking about when I point out that the word "asshole" is used only once in Eric Berne's Games People Play. It is the combination of Naughty Child and Angry Parent. In theory I shouldn't game-call, but since I myself was guilty of assholism until about 10 years ago, I'm going to risk it, being qualified. And so I end suddenly. If I think of anything else, I'll add it.

I didn't say Chris was a stalker. I said he comes across as a stalker. I do have thoughts about Christelle. I am aware that she and Chris have history. I don't feel that Christelle will benefit from my thoughts, since I'm sure Chris has fired off all he can at her. But I feel that Chris hasn't heard all he needs to hear (if only to give him food for thought).
If you don't play games, Chris, then you are unique among the human race.

I guarantee you that I do not stalker her or anybody but I do pay attention to her for obvious reasons.
Andrew, I am far too self absorbed to play games with other people. I am an artist who strives to be the best at all that I endeavor. Game playing is a waste of time.

I gotta get off the jones. Internet coffee stops are evil. But, damn that one-eyed, donut eating bastard. First, he gets me hooked on those cursed tweaked harps.....now, I'll have to stop sooner rather than later.
My only two cents on the matter is this: Chris is direct (clearly). Christelle seems to bristle a bit at anything outside of praise. That is not a criticism, it is an opinion based on observation. I'm the same way. Christelle, you are no "beginner". Although, I have never seen you write this, and I'm not sure where that came from. Also in my opinion, Christelle is very pleasant to for me to listen to. So....what we have is blunt meets somewhat self-conscious. Or....it is possible that there is something the rest of us are not privileged to. Whatever the case, whether you take anything to heart from Chris or not; Christelle, I (like apparently many others) dig yo' shit.

I think by now it's clear -- and Buddha has said as much -- that whatever his ways are, he's not going to change them. Accept the man as he is or reject him forever. So folks like Miles (who, I must say, has really stuck to his guns on this) surely realise it's pointless asking Buddha not to be so blunt, because his behaviour is unlikely to change. Is this to suggest that he should leave this forum?
The wisdom he has to contribute is too valuable, even some of the times when he's saying we're all idiots.

when I say you're all a bunch of idiots, it's not something I directing towards anybody. It was just an entrance into the conversation that was getting out of hand. In reality I don't think anybody is an idiot even though we ALL act like idiots from time to time.

After three months of being locked in the Woodshed I came to check out the site and check the threads and look up a few Ol Pards I may of thought I had here on the forum...Sorry I made a mistake.....It's back to the Shed for me. I ain't got no time fer bullshit!!
