Hi guys,
I'm a long-time lip purser who's just learning to tongue block. I'm not sure if this comes across right, but mentally when bending the three different notes of the 3 hole draw, I tended to think of the blue third as using the tissue around the lips, the half step bend as kind of middle of the mouth, and the hole bend as using the throat.
Now that I'm holding my tongue and lips in a different position, I find that I can only get the full bend on the 2, 3 and 4 while tongue blocking. I can't yet get the smaller bends.
Any advice besides the obvious, keep practicing?

Having the same problem with TB. Full bends work but the bends in between are another story.
I guess it's just a question of practice. In time you'll acquire the necessary skill to bend the reed how much you want ;) After all it's the same with lip pursing: it takes a lot of time to control your bends.

Hi Guys, When doing draw bends with TB, its your throat and diaphram that are doing the work. A lot of books suggested the E...U.. method, its alsmost the same but you are trying to pronouce it with you throat. It can be very frustrating in the beginning.
When you do the high ends blow bends and overblows, then you tongue comes into play when you are TBing.
Hope my 2cents help.

I would really like more tips/first-hand how-to's on people who TB.
I pucker and bending to me is done entirely with - the position of the tongue - the opening of the throat (that makes sense?)
I basically have memorized positions where my tongue should be and how wide my throat should be opened.
How do you TB'ers do it? paint me a picture!

@cloud1i Thanks! I've been able to bend (TB)if I really focused and it always seemed labored. I always used my throat to bend but making my focus on the E...U sound has really helped.
@oda Try bending puckered without moving your tongue. I practice with my tongue touching my bottom teeth your tongue really isn't needed to make a bend (it helps!) but isn't required.
Same myth exist with the blue 3rd and open embouchure, you can get a blue 3rd even with your teeth together. Ronnie Shellist points this out in one of his vids. I think an important aspect to learning what works is experimenting which is something Adam talks about in his vid's I've purchased, try everything every different way to make the worst sound to figure out how to make the best sound.

Oda, Bending with the tongue, you sacrificed the space in your mouth for the tone. Try to do it with your throat, that's how TB do, 'cuase our tongue is mainly blocking the holes. Unless its blow bends and overblows then I have to arch the mid of the tongue while covering the holes.
