Here's a really fun video about a working harp player. He's definitely got a story to tell, and a winning attitude:

Kingsnake records and Bob Greenlee: they're part of the local folklore around there, and they did some good work. If you ever see an L.P. in the used record store called Snowstorm in the Jungle by a band called Iko Iko- BUY IT. Nick Kane on guitar, Bob Hemphill on harmonica with Pete Carr (muscle shoals session man, Duane Allmans buddy). That's a sharp little sample of what they could do (someone should start an MBH thread on obscure but great regional bands and recordings).

There were quite a few exceptional musicians who came out of that area. Shoot, a guy by the name of Ray Charles Robinson, he's from around there. Of course later on as he became more well known he shortened his name, and now you know the rest of the story as Paul Harvey never failed to say.

Super nice guy,and great player Mike is.
He let me use his rig last year when we both played the Florida State Harmonica Championship.
Real freindly and outgoing personality,Mike was the highlight of that day for me.

Mike is a real fixture in the Central FL blues scene. He is pretty interesting and a nice guy.

He is from the "biker" style in your face blues harmonica camp and has quite a presence on stage and when he walks into a room.

Mike is considering making a guest appearance at this year's Florida Harmonica Championships on October 21 at Beachside Tavern in New Smyrna Beach...Gotta be the most charismatic and soulful player we've ever had at our event...I hear that Bryan Basset might play with him...we'd be honored to have Mike and Bryan play...lets hope they can schedule it!

I believe this is Mike Galloway's band. Then again, he may just be sitting in.

speaking of Kingsnake Records (formerly just down the road from where I work,) they put out a fine compilation album called HarpBeat of the Swamp.......great stuff if you can find it.

who is the back up band for your event this year?

did you revamp the event based on all the feedback you received after last year's Competition?
