Hi Everyone,

I have been playing for a little while with a group. We mostly play blues, and I am the lone harp player. The rest of the guys are on guitar, drums or vocals. One of the guys suggested that it would be good to have a "surprise" on our song list - something that would be a real change from the rest of the set. They suggested Cold Play "Clocks".

We like the tune, the guitar guys can really groove to it, and they like the few "high lonesome" notes I contribute to the overall mix. But except for playing the melody in first position, and doubling it up high, and also playing the opening cyclic melody, I really do not know what else I might contribute. Also, as far as I can figure, to actually play the opening notes correctly, I need to master the 6 OB, which I have not done yet, so I am currently faking the 6.

So... I just wonder if anyone here has any ideas of what I might do to contribute more, or whether this is one of those songs where I just put in a few notes at the right time. I really appreciate your thoughts.

Sometimes less is more. This may very well be a case of its sounds good don;t change it.

I would suggest 3rd position, so you play the dorian mode.
You could always just play the singing melody as a solo part, if you don't know what to do.

I also like to point out that the video you sent us, is high-pitched. The original recording is in Bbminor, but of course your band could change that key.

Thank you very much for the feedback. @surealldeal, you are correct. The original is indeed in Bb minor. I just quickly looked for a U-Tub reference I could put on the posting. (Interesting that they chose a different key on the live recording)

@shadoe42, Thanks for verifying what I was feeling. I expect it would be very easy to be out front too much on this tune.

I've seen Coldplay Live in concert and they actually did an acoustic version of a handful of their songs,CLOCKS was'nt one of them, but - it may work doing it acoustically for a small room?
