Great playing, jodanchudan! You take that song exactly where you want it and back! Your tone just keep getting better, too. I really dig the way you get to the high end stuff. I just can't get it naturally. It's kind of ironic, but the 6 ob seem to be my highest natural note, descending. I just can't get ascending stuff seem right.
Just have to keep playing I guess... Great work! ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube
Mr Barrett has taught you well - I can here his influence in your playing...BliSSFULL Tone and quintessential phrasing...You need to video playin that instrumental, I'd appreciate seeing you play it...
Thanks guys. Frank - yep, there's a lot of Barrett ideas here. The third chorus is definitely based on one of his songs - I think choruses that make heavy use of the 3 draw bends are burned into my subconscious because of his study songs! I recorded this using Audacity; the trouble with filming it is I have to use my phone camera, which is okay if I'm using a loop through my amp, but no good with a jam track (it's an Epi Valve Junior, so only one input). I guess there's some device that'll let me feed in two different sources, but whatever it is, I haven't got one. How do you do yours? Do you have the jam track going through the same amp as the harp or is that a bad idea (I have no technical know-how!)
Sorry, I can't see the problem. If you film with your iPhone and get backingtrack in headphones you can pickup amp sound with whatever you are using now. And mix backing track and your recording in audacity and add the sound to the video. There are some timing issues but nothing too hard if you just zoom the timeline in audacity and videoeditor enough.

Told you I had no technical know-how - it hadn't even occurred to me to record sound and video separately. In the past I've either just recorded sound on the pc or have used the sound from the phone video.
Love the squeak at the end Jodanchudan, plus you've got a really nice raspy tone going on there. Were you puckering on this one, it sounded like you were?
This is all tongue blocked - I can't play puckered to save my life. Ideally I'd like to be able to play tongue blocking and puckering - I'll make an effort to focus on it one day. I think a lot of the tone on this is down to the ridiculously overdriven sound I used. I was getting fed up with the muddy tone I usually get from this amp and thought I'd try something a bit more excessive!

Careful, people might want to rough you up in a dark alley for that! :-)
I applaud your technique, tone, style and phrasing. Tasty playing on all of the stuff I have heard from you.

As you progress with the harmonica, you're going to find that it's necessary to pucker AND tongue block. At a minimum, pucker players have to tongue block to play octaves. If you only tongue block you will not be able to do articulations that require using the tip of the tongue. Jason Ricci is a good example-- it gives him a lot of speed.
Really enjoyed that, great tone. and nice groove. May I ask, how long have you been playing? Give a newbie like myself an idea of how long it'll take to get to this standard.
----------Your skills are impressive for someone who has been playing for just three years. Wonderful tone and flawless execution from what I hear. It will be interestng when you feel more confident with your technique that you veer off the usual path and take your solos truly "out" there. You have a ragingly good start.
