Yes, how much and for how long and how often..

Personally my schedule is at least half an hour a day when I am cooking the evening meal.

I have been doing this since 1978

As Jason Ricci so rightly said 'it aint how many years you have been playing, but how many constructive hours'

My own schedule means I stick a james Cotton cd or Jason Richie or whatever and play along.

I will play to myself in the kitchen (cause my wife can't stand it)

I guess overall, cleaning, playing andn listening it is an hour a day; every day and I love it:)

I never have and never will. I play. I started out making noise but it felt good to me. Thinking is what I do all day with life. My art is an escape from that. I feel no frustrations just joys. Why mess with that? I may not know as much as the whiz kids but what I do know keeps me endlessly excited. I play music 3-10 hours a day, everyday. Songs just come out. I share this to show there are other ways than the thinking way to become an accomplished musician. Walter

@waltertore

Don't interpret the word 'practice' as a chore..

I love it as much as you

Structured practice depends what I am trying to learn. Maybe an hour or so. A couple of hours at gig if one is happening, 3 hours for a typical busking session, and noodling at other times. 1-6 hours a day I guess. It is both too much (for my loved ones) and not enough.

I try to play every day but it doesn't happen, not with working full time. I try to grab a few hours at the weekend mainly as my wife works full time but she also has a weekend job.(my wife also dislikes the sound of the harmonica)

For the first 4 years of playing harp i would play every day, any spare minute i could get and play until my lips bled but i cant do that anymore. I think it really helped me in the long run though.

The last time i practiced was yesterday. I practiced for about 2.5 hrs and i worked through some songs that i have learnt in the past,i practiced Juke,Blue midnight, fast Boogie. I always try and run through whole songs i have learnt otherwise i forgot parts to them. It sucks spending 6 months learning a Little Walter song then forgetting it another 6 months down the line, so i gotta keep on top of it, whilst trying to learn other songs.

i also try and put shuffles together with new licks as i find myself playing the same shuffles with the same licks.
I 'm also woodsheddind 3rd position and the Chromatic at the moment.

If i get a rare day off in the week i will try and practice for most of that day.

Ill start in when the sun goes down give or take a hour and work on something musical,be it harp or guitar,or recording or all 3,with many breaks in between all night long untill sun up ,give or take a hour,If I go to bed I might do it again the next day but most times,I stay up,then the next day I dont do anything with music,im to tired I will watch a movie or something and try to get to sleep.I have no life so this is what I do,Although its starting to kill me i think,So im trying to reorganize and try to get in a normal routine.

I reckon I average bout an hour or so per day....Multitasking with house chores whilst noodling along to blues internet radio can and does lead to many a surprising tangent!

I play with the harp many times a day, i can do lots of things others do, but i DO NOT instill the riffs into my brain and play them as second nature, pure lazy but one day i'll change my habits, the consolation is i'm not to bad repeating others using just my "ear" to get going.

For the first 10 years of playing I tried to practice at least an hour every day, usually a bit more.
Last two years when playing harmonica becomes my main job I started to let myself not to play for a 1-3 days sometimes after long tours or some gigs.
Now usually I try to warm up every day with usual set of excercises. And if I have an extra time and wish I work on something new to me (tunes, excercises). I also started to practice singing and playing guitar again.

Usually I'm practicing harmonica while walking, driving in traffic jams or waiting for something.

I usually start to practice a lot if I have a special goal (e.g. new tunes, especially classical), possible for 3-4 hours a day for a some weeks before gig.

For the last week I practiced so few so I'm really frustrated. I have a flu and I'm guest in home of my friends where they ask me not to play.

I practice with the band two hours every Tuesday and Thursday, but my personal woodshedding time is a lot less constructed. I can sit down for hours figuring out new riffs and tightening up my tone, then go weeks without actually working on anything at all outside of dedicated band rehearsal.

Not enough! But I'm putting more and more time aside for it. Usually an hour of focused practice daily minimum.

Practise vs playing ... well
Playing can mean playing within my comfort zone. Not much of a challange, but joyfull ... playfull ... when playing I throw in stuff I've been practising.
Practise for me is focus on difficilties, callanges ...
I practise 15-30 minutes à day
Play maybe some hour per day
On top on that gigs and rehearsals.
