Can anyone tell me the difference in the gold and black versions of these harps? I want to get one as my first chromatic but I don't have any experience on chromatic so any other input from others would be appreciated. Thanks!

The GOLD CX-12 has thicker reeds and are supposedly more air tight than the BLACK ones.
GOLD sells for $252 and BLACK sells for $168

But for the price difference, I bet the BLACK is real close to playing like the GOLD.

I have the Gold CX-12. My instructor won it as a prize in competition. He sold it to me for $100.00 so i could'nt pass it up. I have only worked a little on it. I have played a few scales. I read music and play keyboard. I was told this would be helpful in learning chromatic. A cromatic works very similar to the key board, I just have'nt spent much time on it. I think the black would be just as good as gold plated plastic. It is very easy on the lips with it smooth design. Good luck K.C.

Spl20 : Perhaps you should visit the fllowing website as it is devoted to the Chromatic Harmonica. Certainly your questions will be answered there.

I have a couple of chromatics ie a very old Hohner Super Chromonica & a new Suzuki Chromatix SCX48. My understanding is the CX12 is an excellent Chrom which is easy to maintain in comparison to others.

If its any help I hardly use my Chroms ie I prefer the convenience of diatonics.
