I use a battery powered engraver and sanding sticks...I guess the real question is are you tuning them or re-tuning them? If you are going more than 10 or 12 cent, you will need a file..or rotary.. w/sanding disc ---------- Greg Jones 16:23 Custom Harmonicas greg@1623customharmonicas.com 1623customharmonicas.com

it has been my experience that the stainless steel reeds stay in tune. i have not had to retune one yet i have several expensive tuners and tuning tools. but i never get to use them. i feel like the maytag repair man i have had a few of them where i fractured the reed where the reed needed to be replaced.

If it's starting to go flat, replace it. They stay in pitch until they are about ready to go. They use a rotary tool in the factory. I do, too. You can also use a sanding wand with rough sandpaper. The thing is, filing steel reeds will magnetify your file. I typically prefer my files to be non-magnetified. ---------- David

Thanks for the information. I was simply retuning a few reeds... I recently ordered a session steel (my first) in Powerbender tuning and a few reeds were out upon arrival. Anyway, I was able to tune them up with a file... Took a little longer than normal. Perhaps I will buy a rotary tool of some sort. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I use a battery powered rotary tool from Harbor Freight.. $9.00.. It does more than a sanding stick but not as much as a rotary tool... kind of splits the difference.. You can put a larger rotary attachment on it but because it is batt powered... Only so much you can get ---------- Greg Jones 16:23 Custom Harmonicas greg@1623customharmonicas.com 1623customharmonicas.com
