Im going to be playing some harp this Sat,for Rainwater band,And Mr Rainwater wants me to do a couple songs from my Hobostubs stuff in between a set,I dont want to have to bring alot of extra stuff,so I worked this out, just using my rp 155 effects pedal and guitar and harp,I can only loop 20 seconds so Im limited on that, and It dosnt have any percusion,Everything is done live on 1 take,Sometimes it goes good and sometimes I crash on the loop, every now and then;-)Im going to wood shed these 3 songs ,Let me know of some tips or advise,or even if you make it though the 3 songs;-),Rainwater,plays rock 60 percent original, and Ill be after a set of probelly rock stuff,I hope i can pull off the mood and loops right;-)

At the very end, did you say "thank you, good night"?
The tunes seem a little ambitious to my ear, but I think you're going to have a blast performing them live. Break a leg! let us know how it goes.

thanks Jinx;Yea i was just mumblin something,Its weird ,recording alone and talking to onesself,I never know what to say,Cause its just me;-)Thats what I really am nervous about talking with the audience,I admire some of my friends who can work a crowed, with and really be relaxed with them,Its what I fear the most,And feel like is allmost the most important thing for playing live, and im not sure how I can over come it. --------- Hobostubs

I hear you. I'm in the same boat. I hate public speaking. My advice, be yourself. If you don't know, or have anything to say....that's cool too. I like to hide behind my tunes. ---------- Sun, sun, sun Burn, burn, burn Soon, soon, soon Moon, moon, moon

a couple weeks ago at the hawg waller ,a friend of mine was doing some acoustic stuff,On stage the rest of his band was resting up,from a show they did the night befor,And he has this cool vibe ,when he works a crowed,He is confident, talented and really works them,He took and started doing a tune that some people knew, In the crowed so he got a few up around the mike and had them sing backup,it was so cool,I thought man ,I would like to be able to feel that free while on stage. ---------- Hobostubs

I envy those people too. But it's all I can do just to get the notes how I want them, there's nothing left to spare for charisma. ---------- Sun, sun, sun Burn, burn, burn Soon, soon, soon Moon, moon, moon

You say you like to hide behind your tunes,I know how that is,i hide behind mine all the time, I will post songs but you never see me talk to you on a video like ,Im writing you,It just would seem weird to me,Its done all the time for songs and lessons,on utube, but I would feel weird doing it,
Music for me was Is and forever will be my personal demon of trying to find a happy medium of becomming a player thats feels like he finally learned to play,I have allways just wanted to be happy with what i play,Im starting to like it more but,Its been a long love hate deal,I hope that one day I can feel like I did learn to play a little
,anything else is just extra,Dont get me wrong I would love to be a confident hustling musician that could just go out and get gigs cause he knows hes a entertainer,My interest in playing live .Is mainly a attempt at trying to learn,to meet and be around people comfortable with who you are and who they are.
Its tuff cause im shy,im aloner, and i have low self image,Music is something i love and hate because of the clash of,what you sometimes exspect music to do or be,And there was a time when I would play guitar out on the back porch nobody ever heard me , I was the only one and the spirits i tried to play for,But allways wanting and still wanting to be able to do what some people just breeze though with, exspecially music but life also.anyways thanks for listening Jinx;-) ---------- Hobostubs

Hey Hobo; some people are just confident being out there. I'm not one of them. I used to be pathologically shy. I wouldn't even stare at someone else's shoes. I have learned a lot from busking. I force myself to put myself out there. Adopting a persona. Now I talk to strangers and they talk to me. I must be giving off a more open vibe. I was at a bakery a few weeks ago and the owner was playing a ukulele while standing on a balance board. I said I always carry something around with me. She said "What, a camera?" Then I whipped out the harp, played a few tunes, got a free blueberry muffin and a new friend. You have a unique sound. I can't play anything but harp (still learning), sing a bit, but you have a whole lot of interesting stuff going on. What I have learned from my limited experience is as the musician you usually hear your own mistakes and nothing else. The audience hears all the cool stiff and barely notices the mistakes. I don't presume to give advice to others, but I would like to hear your voice a bit more. Anyway, that'smy two cents worth. I'm sure you'll go great. Have a good time!

thanks guys Bronzewailer,I get that all the time,to sing louder,My sister inlaw been saying awhile now,And the other day,I was at my best friends house, and Im relaxed there, and was having a couple beers,And another friend was like man you talk loud for someone who sings so quiet, you should reverse the 2;-)
,Now im not ususally talkative unless im in the right enviroment or mood.I know im not a singer I try,but for years I was just doing 3 chord songs and started singing to add something to it,I am amazed at how some singers can sing,But also am wondering how they project the voice while doing it,
I thought turning up the mic would work and it helps but it still needs projection,And I dont want to become like one of my friends who screams the stuff,he aint bad and people love his projection but,I dont want to scream. the small vocal range I have I dont think it would work,I also play at night when eveyone is asleep and the birds in the cages chill out for recording.
I think I might have picked up a bad habit,Im not sure how to go about being louder and i have alot of people tell me i need to be. ---------- Hobostubs

Hobostubs, I only wanted you to sing louder because I want to hear the story you have to tell. I suspect the other people also want to hear your story too. That's a good thing. Maybe you are being shy when you sing? I only started singing about a year ago. My problem is I can sing low but tend to drift up higher and I sound weak and wimpy when I do that. If I concentrate on the low end, trying to get resonance from the diaphragm up, it sounds a lot better, as my wife and guitarist partners tell me. This may sound silly but I was thinking of channeling Elvis Presley the other day and it sounded a lot better. Good luck!
