You're a sweet and swingin' harp player, Ryan. Your chops are tight and you have a tone that seems gritty and sparkling at different moments. You know your settings for good texture. Great work. Look forward to reading your blog on a regular basis.

I actually sort of liked the attitude. It had a nice edgy quality. Your background differiates you from the guy shooting video in his bedroom in a grimy T-shirt.

It's a lot of work to hustle gigs, put (and keep) a band together, learn how to sing and get out and do it week in and week out. There is a lot of other work that I didn't include. I respect guys that are out there doing it. As the great blues guitar player Eddy Clearwater once wrote, "it's a hard way to make an easy living".

In the Blues genre, a lot of players come and go. Sticking it out demonstrates perseverance and a love for the music that a lot of players simply don't have. Dedication and commitment count for a lot.

Don't apologize. You're paying dues that most people are unwilling to do. I'll include myself in that group.

I like it and will read your blog regularly. The attitude is fine with me... it takes a lot to do what you have been doing for so long.

That's a pretty intense first post blog. I'll check back and watch how it develops. Its brave an admirable of you to reveal your insecurities. But I wouldn't sweat so much ; as live music will always be honored and its tricks cherished.

Liked it. I would have posted a comment, but don't have an account from one of the required accounts on the drop down list. I have it bookmarked.

REally appreciated your first BLOG entry... I feel like we have had somewhat similar paths (minus the apprenticeship at the hands of west coast harp legends!)... I have also observed legions of new players on the internet that are technically great to brilliant but lack (any?) stage time... While I appreciate playing clean and quickly as well as the ability to play chromatically on a diatonic, I am much more impressed by someone who can jump on stage and lead a a backing band playing some convincing music... I think that the performance aspect of playing the harmonica is often lost on boards like this .. It was refreshing to read you candid and I believe accurate take on (blues) harmonica today... preach on!

Thank you all for your comments. It is truly out of my nature to be so blunt, but it is indicative of the passion I have for Blues and harmonica. I have only received one negative response. I will address that fellow privately, but the gist was "Hey man, that's not cool. I may not be the greatest player, but I have a very informative blog." I shoud have, but did not, differentiated between anecdotal and informational stuff and instructional stuff. Anybody can and should post information, news, etc. Not everyone should post advice on playing, technique, gear, etc. in my opinion .

In the end I just had a vision of a place on the Internet that I had not seen so I made it. The response thus far has inspired me and I will start adding content soon.
