I just received the Ultimized and Bulletized Shure 545 mic that I ordered from Greg Heumann. Greg really does outstanding work. The whole deal was done in a weeks time. The old 545 I sent Greg had great tone, but was not real convenient to use. The length and small head Made it very tiresome to use for extended periods of time. It also had no Volume control. The mic I got back, is not only super sharp looking, but has a volume control and its shorter length and larger element enclosure A joy to play. Thanks Greg!

you are a POS I would never do that to 545 especially a vintage ine you jkust ruined a collectors item what the hell is wrong with you? why didn't you just buy a new one a get that one all chopped. FUCK YOU!!!

Yes good for you MJ. I have a 545 I'm going to send to Greg when I get some spare cash. I did get a bulletizer though and it has made it much more comfortable to hold and opens up my cup chamber considerably. Sounds much better than before.

There's about ten 545's on Ebay right now - mostly stick mics and a couple with the pistol grips. Several are under $100. I have a PE54, now THAT"S a collector's item.

I sent Greg an old 545S to chop into an Ultimate 545. Like MJ's, mine came back looking and sounding GREAT. I've also purchased a cord and two inline transformers from Greg. Top-notch all!

Bought my bulletized Ulitmate 545 directly from Greg new and love it. I don't gig much but pretty much use it exclusively when I do, but still love to pull out my vintage PE54 for special occasions.

Here i sit with my really cheap mic plugged into the pc playing to tracks and wishing i had a good gear set up, the endless info about mics and everything has stopped me from buying anything hot.

@rharley - nothing beats a PE54, except an Ultimatized (and optionally Bulletized) PE54.
FYI - The PE54 was basically a 545 set up for high impedance at the factory, while the 545, though dual impedance, was delivered set up for low impedance. The PE54D was a dual impedance model, just set up for high-Z - and that makes it identical to a 545 of the same era. The PE54 you want is the one that was single impedance, high impedance only. Better transformer. I agree - that's the best 545 there ever was.
