Does anyone have any sound samples of the Alnicomagnet VHT mod? Just got my VHT Special 6. Sounds great but would like to hear what other people are getting.

Cheers

The biggest impact to the tone is from a speaker upgrade, not a circuit tweak.

This amp is modded, but not the alnicomagnet mods. I think the mods are substantially similar. Very similar to the Jim Rossen mods.

Try Soundcloud.

I did a quick little recording from my Ipod but should give some idea.. Using a G harp. I am sure a better player can really make this sing...

I also changed the speaker...the original speaker is good but a little muddy for my taste.

528hemi - It sounds good to me. I did the Jim Rossen mods to my VHT and have left the stock speaker in. Great little amp for the money.

528hemi thanks for that, sounds pretty good! Think I am going to go with one of mods. I have been playing mine for a day now and I think it is getting 'played in'. Have to agree great value for money.

The mod I developed and the Alnicomagnet mod are different. The original circuit has a boost control that deactivates a fender black face style tone shaping circuit that has fixed resistor values instead of pots. The adjustable tone control is like a tweed Princeton tone circuit. (Yes the original has a black face style circuit that is not adjustable and a tweed Princeton adjustable tone circuit) The Alnicomagnet mod (at least the one I built a while back) dispenses with the boost control and the black face style circuit, and uses a treble bleed tone control. My mod reduces the magnitude of the boost control, modifies the black face style tone shaping circuit, and adds a switch to the lower value cap (bright cap) of the tweed Princeton style adjustable tone control, among other changes.
I tried a few speakers in my Spec6 before modifying it, then went back to the original speaker after the mods. I have not tried the speakers that seem most popular as replacement speakers.

I played it stock and it sounded good..the boost is useless, way to much gain. Then did the alnico mod myself..if you can solder it is very easy..great pictures. Once Done with the mod it was an improvement to me but I still thought the speaker was muddy. Given it was not broken in. I always wanted to try a weber so put a 10A125-O in there... The VHT also sounds great with Chromatic
