I got this Rauner chromatic from the late 1940s, it had some leather valves on it that were different from the Hohner leather valves from the 1930s, but unlike the Hohner valves (which in their day, were better), they still work fine. I have a little leather just like Rauner's, so I made a few valves, which are untested. I cut them the same way Rauner did - by hand. I used an old straight razor and a straight edge. Anybody wanna try them? If you're serious about trying them, they are free with S.A.S.E., but I only have so many. I could probably do about 10 samples of 10 valves each.

Crazy when you can't even give stuff away, lol.
They work nice for outside valves. They are pretty thick, they seal really tight and I could tell a big difference on the draw notes. They are actually way thicker than the Rauner valves and aren't curling any. Next batch I make, I'll probably sand the leather a little thinner. My chromatic valve setup thus far are Wally Peterman's single-ply on the inside and the leather on the outside.
