I have this CD and have listened to it many many times. I also have one of Steve's instruction book and CD packages. I've always been amazed by his vibrato. Watching this video you can clearly see him moving the harp in and out of his mouth to create (or at least accentuate) his vibrato. At HCH Adam interviewed Mitch Kashmar and they talked about vibrato. Mitch demonstrated how he does it by lifting his arms and showing how he convulses his abdomen. Adam mentioned that he uses more of a throat vibrato. I don't want to hijack this thread (perhaps I should start a separate thread) but as one who is trying to improve what little vibrato I have I would be interested in hearing some comments from others about how they create vibrato. It is evident from this video and the HCH conversation that there are several ways to do it.
My vibrato comes from controlling the muscles that regulate the coughing mechanism in my throat - same ones used to make machine gun sounds when I was a kid.
Inhale or exhale from deep diaphragmatic area and control those throat muscles moving towards minimizing the musculature until it almost disappears, so instead of a choppy sound, it comes in waves. ---------- The Iceman
