recently my cm powered brown bullet began cutting out. when i got a look at it the ground wire was worn off of the lug on the 1/4" jack. in a case like this i always desolder all the wires and trim everything back, tin it all, and reconnect to the lugs on the jack.
obviously i did something wrong since the mic makes no noise good or bad.
the cable is a single lead with a wound-around-the inner-shield ground wire. that wire was the one which came apart.

this jack is a 2 pole type with a separate pole for ground.

i was pretty sure i put the "hot lead" back to the right pole but maybe not.
any of you mic guys have wise counsel for a guy who should know better?
thanks-

2 pole type with a separate pole for ground? Do you mean a stereo 1/4" plug? You need to use the pole connect to the "tip" not the "ring". But for a couple bucks you can get a proper mono 1/4" plug - why use this?

i guess this was either what was on the cable i bought- a vintage look guitar cable, about 15 years ago- or possibly the guy who did the flame paint job put this one on.
at this point i will likely just switch to the other pole. your counsel is as always appreciated and i will get the right stuff soon. it being saturday evening i won't get anyplace until about tuesday or so.

15 years? You could have other cable problems too. When cables get old the dielectric (insulation between the shield and center conductor) can crack - and then you're one twist or bend away from a short.

so perhaps a fresh cable is in order.

....and viola!! changing poles worked. by the way the cable still feels supple and flexible. this is a sort of tweed wrapped cable that was popular in the 90's at least where i was living around Dallas.
