and the speakers connected to it, both a HUGE leap from what I was used to, making music with the boys in the garage...
Sound great with the mic on the stage, but I'd still love to hook up my gear to it and put it through the tests.
Makes me change my mind about that HG2...almost.

Yes, For Sure, The power of the mighty PA. Built in effects, great sound, cuts right through the mix. easy to play around the vocals, and best of all hear yourself through the monitors!!
Now, put your amp'd sound into the PA and hang on.
Doesn't need to be the HG2. For a simple solution, just point an SM57 at the front of your amp, cut the treble, set the mid lower and the bass up and let the PA take the sound out to the back of the hall.
