Check out the first two videos, which feature, I believe, Greg Szlap. This stuff is fantastic. It's really the first new way of teaching blues on the harmonica that I've seen in a long time. It really accords with my subjective feeling of playing what Szlap is playing. I don't know how the technology works--whether the technology automatically "hears" what he's playing and translates it, or whether he has to painstakingly translate it into visuals after the fact. But it's great stuff.

Second all that DutchBones. Just got through checking out the site. Really smart ideas as to how it's laid out. I just scratched the surface, and I agree there's lots of stuff there to occupy your time.
Thanks Adam,

Great find Adam!

To answer (well best guess) your question, I work with Flash a lot and I'm not aware of any software that would automate this. So as far as I can tell, it's a painstaking, labour of love translation from sound to visual.

A lot of work has gone into that site and it shows. I loved the virtual harmonica too!

***Edit***
Actually I was looking at the web animations - I missed the youtube clips. Having seen them now, they are a composite of a Flash movie and video. I actually think the riffs were tabbed out first, the animation created and then the video filmed of the players syncing to the animation. Truly brilliant teaching method.

Ive done a lot of work with Flash (and lots of other software) and came to the same conclusion MVLUN did. Though, I think they made the audio/video track of someone playing it then used that to create an animation (if Im not wrong the image is the same its a matter of which dot and where to place it and at what moment on the timeline). Id guesstimate the animation takes less then 30 minutes to create.

I seen the youtube videos a few days ago & didnt think much of them. Id much rather have the handwritten tabulature then have to rewind and playback an animated one.
