just would like some pointers on this song. does it work well? how is my tone and how can i sound better
also am i right with this song Nine below zero. i swear he uses a 10 hole in D played in 2nd pos. i know my harp is a lil flat im broke n have no means of getting a new one anytime soon.........grrrrr.........sigh....
I can't give you expert advanced help. I can tell you what I heard. I thought you sonny boy song sounded good. I wasn't always sure if I was hearing you or sonny boy, but what I heard sounded good. I expect you can hear that though. The John fogerty song: I think it's hard to make that interesting in the way you guys are approaching it. But, personal taste aside, you sounded good when you were working on a riff. When you went for lead style runs it didn't work. The guitar doesn't work either. But I think it's tough to do something cool in this song because it's just so rambling and undefined. You can jam and have fun and listen back and judge for yourself what works or not. That's cool. As a performance I think it's not entertaining, and a lot of that is just down to the song. I reckon you'd do better with some tighter boundaries to work in. That's just based on my own experience. And I'm just an amateur player working on improving my game; I'm sure others can give you better pointers. I think I remember stuff you posted before, not sure but if I'm right you have improved a lot. ----------
aside from selling your soul to the devil i dont know what to tell you. sonny boy was my teacher i picked up what i liked then just played how i wanted to never note for note. its about free drugs drinks and cootchie not really being good. try selling your soul.
Like SuperBee I'm not an advanced or an expert player, but maybe this will be useful
First track - it was ok, a little too loose in parts, sounded like a early jam before you start to tighten up the arrangement. Personally I didn't especially like the harp tone you had, too overdriven, rather than the smoother deeper valve sound I prefer. The solos sounded a little under-rehersed. The second one (at the 4min mark)was definitely better, I especially liked that climb at the start - but too much free-form playing for my taste, and too many notes which didn't add much. I think that this song could be approached with some simple phrases with full tone...perhaps you were let down a little by the sound from your set-up which didn't allow for this. Perhaps also your band could consider framing the solos by using the turnaround from the chorus, or even use the verse chords - I think that the continuous riffing on E can make you go more adventurous when it's not so necessary.
I'm being a bit overly critical just because the second track is *much* better. You get some of SBW II's subtleties into your playing, and some of your notes really "sing".
My only criticisms would be first - I was pretty sure that that song is in C with an F harp! I don't have my harps to check if this is a different version - could you may be more or less transposing the tune up a hole on the harp?
Secondly, you could be stronger with the rhythmic sensibility of your playing - I don't get the feeling that you're tapping your foot, or have a solid internal beat. Even a slower song like this you show also be trying to slightly syncopate your phrasing, a getting that triplet feel.
Anyway, hope this came across as helpful. That second track especially showed just how good you can be. cheers

First Track – Sounds like you’re playing an A harp. My perception is that you're playing a little bit shy during your solo. Maybe not. Are you laying back a bit? I can barely hear the bottom end of that harp.
Second Track - I think you did fine even with the kids distracting you. He’s playing a D harp in 2nd position as you say. You’ve got the licks and it’s OK to embellish a bit…. Unless, you’re trying to get it note for note.
Here’s my advice: Stop “following” Sonny and play “with” Sonny. In other words, you’re waiting for Sonny to start a riff and then you jump in just behind. Play it with confidence and try it without watching Sonny as he’s playing. You’re picking up visual cues from the video instead of hitting your own stride. Your bends are pretty good. It’s a simple tune but you have to be focused to pull it off.
Quit laying back. Step forward and say something when you solo. I think that’s the next step for you. Don’t be so timid.
Good luck, pal.
