Has anyone else listened to this album too much? I hear that Jason hates all his albums except Rocket Number 9 and this one is definantly no Rocket Number 9. But all things considered it's a respectable album with some great harp playing. There is even a version of the Butterfield classic Drifting Blues. This is also the first album that Ricci broke out the overblow on.

In the end I got it import from Amazon but very expensive. How many cd's has he done? How can I get Rocket Number 9? I have only listenened once but it has exceeded my expectations

I like all of Jason's albums (his first was called Down at the Juke, so that makes 4 that I've got), but I think Rocket is the best so far. I have a friend who likes them all except for Rocket! I'm also a Sun Ra fan. In the early days Jason's singing was pretty sharp. I bought Rocket Number 9 from HMV in Oxford Street, down in the basement in the Jazz and Blues section - it was in stock; I didn't need to order it.

Frodo, I can't promise they'll have plenty in stock. It may be better to order it from your local HMV - at least you know they can get it.

Does anyone have an information on when Jason's new album will be coming out? I heard something about it coming out fairly soon and was wondering if that was true or not.

Which new one are you talking about?
I know he was just in the studio but unless he mentioned it in his blog I don't think anyone knows about it yet.
Jason's current drummer is the drummer in my last band, Ed told me they're recording one of his original tunes and if it's the one I think it is then it's going to be great! The next album should be fantastic.

I believe Jason is getting ready to go into the studio in January.
Jason reminds me of a cross between Stevie Ray Vaughn and Mozart. Let me explain: I heard an interview with Eric Clapton talking about the first time he heard Stevie. He said what blew him away was Stevie never paused. Most players, in a solo, pause slightly to figure out where they are going next. Stevie never did that. Jason does the same thing: his solo's are twenty minutes of sonic attack: you can never get your bearings, its like a roller coaster ride once it starts.
He also reminds me of a scene from Amadaeus, where the other composers are telling Wolfgang why the king didn't like his opera: it was too long for the "royal ear." Jason's like that, too. He's throwing out a twenty minute blistering harp solo, and half the audience can't appreciate all the technical stuff he's doing, and they get tired. Hell, I was exhausted from his solos, and I was just listening!
Jason Ricci and New Blood should be a much bigger draw than they are. Either Jason has to dumb down his music (unlikely), or audiences need to get smarter about this stuff. Its a shame to see local hacks (nice guys, but hacks nonetheless) pack a bar more than Jason does.

I agree. Maybe he needs a new publicist to get his name out there more. He was in one of our local bars on a Thursday night and there was only about 30 people in there. Somehow he needs to get better exposure.

Hi everyone! This is Jason. I do hate all my records so far except Rocket # (/ I thought that was awesome that some one else liked all but that one! Thats great I love music . Maybe I should be less selfish/ashamed/embaressed/self conscious/critical/realistic I don'u know....and just put all the old records on I tunes....
My new record is coming out in April...I love the songs and I think it is more blusey that rocket with out being dumbed down...It's the most collabritive (Band and I) CD yet. I'm so flattered by all your comments here to the point where I wished I hadn't come in here! Thank you all so much for you curosity, respect and attention! I onluy hope I can give that back in person or however. In person is the best! J

I was at the jam camp in ATL., met Jason and have all of his CDs. I feel the only way, unfortunatly, to get a good start in the music industry is to come out with a 3 chord catchy tune. Look at 3 Steps , or Runaround. Look at The Jonas Brothers-- what a shame. The public loves this stuff. Jason, give it a try-- you have nothing to loose.------- 99

"I'M A New Man" Three chords ,bouncy, catchy chorus/hook. Off Rocket #9 2007 it was marketed as a single and appeared in a CD in Relix and Dirty Linen magazine that album had a full page add in SPIN etc...The real way to get a "Good Start" in the music Biz is to have a good start in life financialy or some one else who will sink literally millions of dollars into you. I live in Nashville and there are literally thousands of poor, broke jobless singer songwriters with literally hundreds of 3 chord catchy tunes each . Mean while I own my own home have two dogs, a parrot and a cat, Own my van out right and make a more than comfortable living...So It depends what your definition of a good start is as well....Many of the bands/people that have big hits and commercial success also end up owing much of there money to the labels, agents, managers and such that made those songs big. In any case...I am trying and have yet another 3 chord catchy tune for the new CD due out in April so in other words: "I hear you!" J

OK, New Man it is. The request line for Bluesvile on Sirius/XM is 866-267-0454. Give it a call and request Jason Rici! Let them feel the power of the internet!

Violin Cat writes "I thought that was awesome that some one else liked all but that one!"
The guy's a strictly Deep Purple, Ozzie Osborne kinda guy - whenever he hears the word 'jazz' he reaches for his gun!

Quick question for Violin Cat/Jason: -
In the Sixties or Seventies Pachelbel's Canon was used in the UK on TV to advertise woollen clothing, but it was played at half speed, and Brian Eno says quite a lot about the genius of slowing it down on the cover of one of his albums where he slows it down even more. Now I've got three versions of Sun Ra playing Rocket Number 9 and they are all really fast, so my question is, are you the genius who slowed it down, or have you heard a slow version somewhere?

I think that Jason's analysis of his earlier albums as "awful" is perhaps due to personal high standards he sets himself for his records.
I've heard a few tunes off feel good funk and they're fuckin' smokin' hot good tunes. There's definitely stuff in that album for harp Muggles (like myself) to learn from, and for everyone else to be impressed by.
