I recently bought a CD by sam cooke called nightbeat where sam sings some traditional blues like fools paradise and little red rooster...I knew sam got his start in gospel and then crossed over into a huge commercial success...Im quite sure he realized blues were not the path to success but glad he recorded this most wonderful album...R.I.P Sam

One of the great singers. Love his stuff.

Rod Stewart's main vocal influence was Sam Cooke. Once you realize this and are familiar with Sam's vocals, listening to Rod (especially earlier tunes and ballads), it becomes pretty obvious.

Sam Cooke could sing a ransom note and it would sound great!
