I was thinking. Jon Gindick has a thing set up that allows us to call him, leave a message with us playing on a "C" harp, and he will email you with his critique. I think we could do this with YOUTUBE. If we set up strand of videos where people post themselves playing what they know how to do. Then have experienced people give "Constructive" ideas on how to improve.

The only problem may be with outsiders constantly saying, "wow great job, your the greatest...will you marry me" suff.

Anyone with ideas, just post here. We need to find an easy way of finding the videos once they are posted. So maybe just use one name.

I'm not sure, but I think I read somewhere (youtube info) that you can load vids only available for friends and/or family. I don't have the time now, but it's worth checking out, caus it's a very good idea!

Miles,

I think thats a great idea. With respect to what you and Dutch have said, I think we could just start a thread for it, then post your vid to youtube, I think you can upload it and tick a box for private, then only someone you have as a friend can view it ( I've never done this before, but looking at the options I think I'm right )

That's an excellent idea. I've been dying to upload some of my playing on youtube but I'm a little shy and paranoid about it. I know, I should just grow some balls and put something up... :p

This is something I do via skype for those that what it. I also write up full critques if you just send me a video. I've done some of this with Harpfreeman on this forum so perhaps he can comment on it's effectiveness. This service is not limited to beginners I often work with professional players as well, in fact I just worked with PT Gazell a few days ago so feel free to ask his opinion if you choose.

My usual blunt and objective style applies in this lessons. I don't sugar coat anything, I just tell you what I think without any intention of harm. I also offer advice give exercises on how to improve.

If somebody wants to set up a critque session with me email me offlist groovygypsy (at) gmail (dot) com

I don't tell anyone they play like crap. And I'm not negative with anyone's playing. If you are SPAH members... in the most recent harmonica happenings this was written by JP Pagan

"Chris was supportive but challenging, and while I was deathly afraid of sounding like an idiot, I knew I was learn"

"He had me playing over chord changes I wasn't familiar with, in postions I have never tried before"

"I felt inspired...I learned more with during my time with Chris than I had in a long long time before then."

Sometimes pointing out a simple but overlooked thing can change a person's playing dramatically. When I had the session with PT, I pointed out ONE little thing, it opened up his eyes and now he doing it to improve his sound.

Lessons are $90/session which is always at least an hour. 1/2 hour lessons are $50

Critique sessions are $35 these are not as intensive as lessons.

I offer a free lesson with the purchase of one of my custom harps.

If you're in a rut a lesson is a great place to start. I won't make you feel bad and all of my energy goes into helping you be a better player.

I think all this is terrific. Carry on!

Chris, I'm also fine with you letting folks know that you're available for private coaching ($) via Skype. Dennis Gruenling does that. People ask me if I'll do this, and I've thought about it, but the truth is, I've got another gig as a professor and it's a good one, and if I don't write the G-D D--N book I'm supposed to be writing during this sabbatical, I'll be Mr. Nowhere Man. So I'm delighted to know that other competent and inspired professionals are doing this.

The YouTube solution, privatized, sounds. Yes, by all mean, use this forum in the way you've suggested and let us all know how things are going from time to time.

Don't forget: I'm having that free MBH get-together in Memphis on International Blues Challenge weekend. For folks within harping distance of Memphis, that could be a fun time to collect and share in person.

Great! I'm Glad you guys are all down with this. I was thinking that if possible, we could start different strings for different types of playing (Train songs, 12 bar Blues, Shuffle, Swing rhythms, or just rythmic playing.) to help with the organization, and also to help people find certain types of videos.

Thank you "cm16600" for setting this up. I'll post a vid as soon as i can.....Everyone have fun and Get Uploading!

and always.......... GO BEARS!!!!

Hello everyone. What a great idea. I am not good enough yet to post anything on YouTube, but would love to be able to log in learn and put a face to the names here on this forum. If you could set me up that would be great... or do I need to have a YouTube account first? Obviously I've only watched the posted songs and have not acquired an account. If someone would advise next step that would be cool. Thanks!

Hi snakes, you should be able to view the channel, harpfriends, without a YouTube account but if you want to add a video or comment then you will need to set up a YouTube account. cm16600 has the honour of being the first video post.

Following on from David

Snakes, I think the best way would be to set up a youtube account and then list your youtube name here and someone will drop the details of harpfriends. Dont think that you are not good enough to post, as I think you can upload something anyway, tick private and then only the friends of harpfriends can see it.
( ie you wont think the whole of YOutube is watching you!!, only your friends)

You might be able to ask, how do I do that bit, or how can I improve, and get some good feedback.

Nice! I'm adding harpfriends group link to my bookmarks. If I ever get my act together I'll create an account and maybe in a couple decades when I'm nearly as good as the rest of you I'll post XD .

Hi everyone,
I think it would be nice if you upload something, that in the info bar you put a few details, like how long youve been playing, what kind and key of harp, hap mods, etc.

Train-train, I couldn't find your channel..... go to youtube and send a message to me so i can reply with the proper info. my name is miloesskater

Other than that, Everyone has been invited. Can't wait to see what we come out with......remember, you don't have to post anything advanced or that sounds good. Just post what you can do at the moment.... I won't be posting great stuff, just some stuff that i know.

Just remember, "This isn't to look like we are good harp players in front of everyone. It is to see what we could do to progress. To get information that WILL lead to us being BETTER HARP PLAYERS."

I'm glad we could get this many people in. Keep posting your YouTube name and We will send you the Information with an Invite.

Thank you all for your support and.... GO BEARS!!!
