Neil Graham does custom jobs (Jim Conway uses his harps). Big Blind Ray might know someone who does too...

I just damaged a crossover by being clumsy, and a few others which jhave 1 or 2 bad reeds. Just reed replacement is what I'm after. Might be worth investing in some tools otherwise I guess. ----------

I have a few like that, sitting in the drawer. Or reed plates with just one bad reed, having replaced the reed plates with another order to Rockin' Rons.

You could try Tony Peri. he does all the Hohner warranty repair work in Australia - he also is the repair arm of Elk River in Australia. ---------- David

thanks all. Tony Peri indicates replacing individual reeds in diatonics is uneconomical, which is fair enough so i guess its gonna be a DIY effort. I only have this one Crossover and a bunch of Special 20s and Blues Harps. i've ruined the 5 draw on the crossover...pretty sure i'll be able to cannibalise from a SP20 interestingly the info on TP's site about replacement reedplates seems somewhat out of date. how long since SP20s and MBs were MS?
"MS (Modular System) Replacement Reed plates are available for the following harmonicas. The same reed plate fits any body comb. The cover plates are interchangable as well: • Special 20 • Marine Band • Blues Harp
Other types of diatonic harmonicas have their own reed plates to fit....
• Golden Melody • Meisterklass • Big River"

I have used the MS reedplates for blues harps and my lone Meisterklasse. I love the smooth coverplates of the Meisterklasse. Check Rockin' Ron's. http://www.rockinronsmusic4less.com/content/harps/accessories/reedplates.php

Ron isn't listing crossover reed plates, but I figure they'll be the price of a local mb classic anyway. Yeah, I was just dreaming I might be able to replace a reed for less than the price of a new harp, but seems not. Guess I'll just wear it. And be more careful next time. I can still use that harp, it's got more Ds ----------

Hi MBHers,
Tonys site is fairly out of date, ben like that for the last few years that im aware of.
DIY is definitely the way to go with reed replacement. Will be a case of weather its worth your while purchasing the tools to do the job.
Grant Burkitt is another Aussie player based near Bowral who i very familiar with doing reed replacement work. Try dropping him a line for some advice if youre local.
Also, If you're not already familiar with it, there is a facebook group (Australian Harmonica Player Network) that may be of help in this instance.
On another note, I checked out the Mandoharp site repairs page, they seem to be planning a move to make custom coverplates and combs for the Aussies. Check it out
