Let's say a harp mic says it has a response of 100hz to 5,000hz. That means you can't add gain at frequencies below or above that range, right?

For example, a bass control at 80hz cranked won't do anything?

Also, if there is a peak or valley withing that 100hz to 5,000hz range, you then change that curve by using eq, right?

Thanks!

No, when a mic says it has a response of 100hz to 5,000hz, that doesn't mean it has no response at 80hz, just that the response has started to drop off. You'd need to look at the spec sheet to determine what that response is.

Similarly, the bass control centers its boost and/or cut at 80hz, but the roll-off from there will still have effect at 60 or 100 hz. The steepness of that roll-off is usually expressed as db per octave.

So, yeah there will probably some effect.

Timeistight is correct - that is only the "rolloff" frequency. The rolloff characteristics are usually pretty sharp at the high end but less so on the low end.

On the other hand - what are you expecting to pick up? The lowest note on your G harp is about 100Hz.

Well..this warrants its own thread, but I LOVE the bullet mic Greg made for me and want to try and use it for solo shows where I beatbox.

That usually requires a peak around 60-70hz...and I use harps down to LLF.

I just got the mic and it literally blows me away. Going to jam with it over lunch, in fact. I can tell that the Ultimate 57 has more lows, but was surprised how a little eq had them near identical when just playing harp.

Worth every penny for sure!!!

when using a EQ pedal, what are the freqs that work better whit harmonica? I asume that in a 10 band the Lower and higer does not add or take anothing to the sound of a harp, but how about the rest?

I have heard that the harmonica sound noves in the mids, but what freq. is a mid freq.?

Thxs!

240 Hz. Boost 240 or 250 to make harp sound fat. These are low mid freqs.
