Many years ago on a different forum I asked about harp playing over funk grooves. One suggestion was the mid-70s group Sky King, featuring Peter "Mudcat" Ruth on harmonica.

Came across the old message and nowadays with the wonders of youtube I found these - well worth a listen!

Secret Sauce - James Brown-style funk. Includes a Jew's Harp solo too!

Why Don't You Take Us - more mellow, with a tasty harp solo

Hot Mustard - very funky rhythm playing

Still got this record. One of my earliest influences to get me interested in harmonica.

I wore the grooves out of that album. Probably 3 copies worth. Madcat is a true innovator. Top 5 all time in my book.
