I went to another open mic on Wednesday night--this time I brought back the evidence. The only song I have ever done with this guitarist/singer before that night is "Key to the Highway.

I got lazy and just took my green bullet and plugged it into the desk--adjusting the tone & volume myself. I thought I had an OK sound going at the time, but the camera was directly in front of the guitar amp--so I got a little buried.

I was being cautious to not blot out Bob Falkenstein, the guitarist--but I got blotted out myself. Next time I'll take my own rig and spend a little time setting things up, and I'll probably get a little braver with the volume knob on my mic.

Anyway, I was fairly pleased with myself when I heard these back today--so I thought I'd share them with you guys--It's OK if you don't like them--but please tell me why if you have the time--that way I can learn something from this experience.

I sure did have a lot of fun with it--it sounded better if you were there . . .

Sounded pretty good to me, some more volume would help though, it's hard to hear you (on my computer)

you had lots of techniques that all worked. the chugging fills was very good.
perhaps some more sustained notes using vibratto would make the music sound more full. (just a suggestion.)

Thanks for the encouragement and tips, everybody.

Eharp, You're right--I've been working for over a year on a good vibratto--and I can do it pretty well now--but I must have got too nervous to let it kick in--next time will be better and thanks for the tip.

Sundog, I don't part my hair at all--just comb it all straight back--then it goes wherever it wants to.

Geordie--My wife was there and she doesn't let me drink when I play anymore--the last time I had a couple of beers before going on I blew the music so bad she was embarrassed--so now I have to go on--then drink my ass off after the gig is over.

The stuff I did on "Key..." was totally thanks to Dr. Gussow--one of my favorite lessons is the Sonny Terry one on Key to the Highway. . .Of course most anything I do on harp that isn't a mistake is probably thanks to him--at least in some measure. . .
