Have a busking tonight at a local coffee shop with a git friend. It is outdoors, and it has to be totally acoustic. Seems they had problems in the past that resulted in gendarmes arriving and shuting down the whole act...so NO amplification, not even a little MicroCube.
I got to thinking, what could I do to help project the sound with no elec. , and would be a novel prop?
I took an old plastic pail....the kind that wall paste comes in. Cleaned it up. painted it silver on the outside, and gold inside. Then I cut a hole that would accomodate an old vacuum cleaner hose. Inserted the hose. VOILA!
Somehow, it works; although it is odd. Will inform if it made a difference in playing and ultimate acceptance.
I am considering calling this contraption a "buskerdoo" . Does anyone else know of something similar?

Success! The buskerdoo was a hit! My partner was skeptical at first, but agreed that he could hear me much clearer than if it was open air. There were people drawn in from 40-50 feet away. My partner is a young, fellow teacher ( git, bass, piano ), more than half my age. Talented, has alot to learn, but very smooth and just aching to know the REAL blues. I made a "monkey stick" out of an old shovel handle, but had no monkey, so I had to use a muskrat.
Played a variety of Blues, country, jazz, standards. Started with "Green Onions", ended with "The Chickenhawk Song". Highlight of the evening was the request for "Good Mornin' Little Schoolgirl". My partner did not know the song, but I said "Oh Yeah!" ( follow me...A minor ) I set the basic riff, then wailed on harp and vox. Made more than gas bones, and had people taking pix of us all night long. Oh, the quick name is J & J's Monkey Band.

Last night, at a regular gig, I brought the "buskerdoo" along...set it right in front as a tip jar. Got the incidental traipsers leaving a duck while departing. Then, at the end of the first set, I pick it up and start playing through it. WALLETS FLY OPEN, and I work the crowd as the green flows. My buddie says, "I Get it! It's a MONEY VACUUM!".
