I don't spend much time playing amplified but when I do I use a stock shure 57 into a stock princeton reverb reissue or whatever is on the stage if sitting in. I did a couple hundred gigs a year for over 20 years and never had gear that worked right. You had to make the best of what you had. I put my $ into my clothes, cadillacs, and jewelery. I found that to be quite the norm being around the old blues guys. Then when I started hanging out with the rockers the focus was on the ever never ending end of the rainbow with gear/tone. That end never interested me much. I found it much more exciting to have a custom made lame suit on with 10 gold rings on my hand :-) Today I still play with basic gear- a stock reissue princeton reverb for my MIK copy of gibson 335 guitar. I don't buy the clotes like I use to but put my money into capturing how my miusic sounds clearly. It is great to buy great gear if you can but nothing but time will get you the sounds you want to hear coming out of you. Here is one -no - delays, tremelos, just some reverb off the stock mic and amp. The tremelo is via my mouth. I recorded the vocals, guitar, and drums on my feet, then overdubbed the harp. I am proud of this song. It is sparse but not lacking IMO, with a refrained solo at the end. I may have to mess with some amped harp some this week. Walter

That is some real soulful harp without the distortion, very nicely done.I agree the harp is the horn from the heart, and you been around the block, they should name it after you.
I have some of the newer gear/pedals/mics/amps which in essence only enhance what you givin up.Time on the instrument their is no better plug in effects.

thanks capnj! You can't beat good gear when it is in good hands.
Here are some from tonight. Spirits travel through me often as I sing. Tonight I was tapped into the criminal/prison souls. Walter

good tone man. generally i use the silvertone 1482 with a bullet, cm element in there. i have had lots of compliments over the years. it's never just the gear, it's what you do with a harp prior to ever having gear.
i was just given a little delay pedal i'm about to start trying out. i have gotten to use one just here and there in recent years and figured it was time to get that little extra slap they can provide. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene
thanks jbone and Joe_L! I remember those silvertone amps. I had one where the head fit in the cabinet for traveling. Here are a couple pictures I came across on a collector album website. They have one my lps I recorded in belguim on it for $25. These pictures were on the page too. I wonder how they got them? these were from a photo shoot for the album and never were released. that guitar is the first one I ever owned that played right. Louisiana Red is playing it in the slide show with the song. I still have the guitar. Lots of memories are in it and the those threads and seeing that I didn't clip the ends of the guitar strings on the headstock. I would keep them for when the strings broke and would knot them at the break and capo above it. Like I said, I spent my money on clothes more than gear..... Walter

RG500: I would enjoy that. I don't travel much anymore since I quit booking myself. I am waiting for someone to appeard that is excited about my concept. Until then I am content to not gig out very much. I live just outside columbus ohio. You are welcome to come up for a visit anytime. Hope to meet you someday.
