I was looking through my music collection and discovered that I only have a scattered sampling of John Lee Williamson stuff(SB1).

What would be your top recommendation for a cd or set to get the best of SB1's music?

If you can find a CD called The Right Kinds Of Life, get it. They cleaned up the audio on it. It sounds fantastic.

They did a nice job cleaning up the complete collection on Document Records.

I've got a compilation called "A Decade of John Lee Williamson" which does the job whenever I feel like hearing him

That's because he recorded Good Mornin' Little School before 1939. Duh! ;-)

There are two CD's that have the pre 1939 recordings.

HIs stuff as front person was highloy influential but what I'd suggest is getting stuff of him as a sideman so you really hear what he's doing even more so and the stuff he did as a sideman with Big Joe Williams, you can really hear how much of what he did was a gigantic influence to guys like both Walters as well as SBW II.

What I'd suggest you do to get more of his stuff is go to the best online store for buying blues CD's anywhere and that's http://www.bluebeatmusic.com that's run by a California blues DJ named Charlie Lange.

I have this 4-CD set. The picture on the cover is the wrong Sonny Boy. It has songs from 1937 on, including Good Morning Little Schoolgirl. And it is super inexpensive.
