Anybody experience in swapping the solid state rectifier of the 59 Bassman reissue by a tube 5AR4 or 5U4GB as suggested in the owners manual, my idea would be that since the output power reduces you can crank it up more and the overall tone improves, is that correct?

I don't know the technical reasons of just what it does ..... but if you play harp, you NEED to get rid of that SS rectifier. Putting a tube rectifier in there made all the difference in mine (as did replacing the stock power tubes with a matched set of JJ tubes from eurotubes.com).

I had the experience of A-Bing the solid state verses tube rectifier in a friend's Bassman RI (that I eventually bought), and the tube rectifier sounded infinitely better no question......
