I' ve tuned most of my harps close to 19-limit compromised. I play mostly in 1st, 2nd and 3rd position,... I like 5d and 9d to work in those positions. I don't intend to turn this into another Just vs. ET discussion. But it is of course relevant. My question is what tunings you prefer regarding what positions you play. Specially, what tuning you find working for playing mainly in 1st and 2nd position. with the same harp of course. ---------- The tone, the tone ... and the Tone

I don't have much personal experience, but from what I've read on this forum,3rd is about as far as you can go with that tuning. After that the notes sound wrong and ET seems to work better. I don't think you play many chords in the higher positions anyway.

I dont tune my harps, and i mainly play 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions, a little 5th, and the occasional 1st, and been slowly trying some 12th. I'll use ET or JI for any of em, sometimes being slightly out of tune sounds nastier and more soulful, like when i tune a guitar, it just has to be "close enough for rock and roll"

This is why I like ET or very close to ET. The way I use chords isn't enough to cause a concern, and I need octaves not to beat more. ---------- Mike VHT Special 6 Mods Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas - When it needs to come from the soul...

@Jim Just 1-4 ... ET 5-10 ... Interresting. How does that affect the octaves?

@ s-harp asked" Just 1-4 ... ET 5-10. How does that affect the octaves"
I'm happy with the octaves, but then, I don't play a lot of octaves. th 1-4 ocataves (blow and draw)are fine. By definition, everything else should be off, but it sounds close enough for me. This gives me those good I and IV chords in second position and a good 1-4 draw for the V chord. Yet when I play 3rd in holes 4-10, they still sound good to me.
I approach it as, chord in the bottom, melody in the top.(kinda)
