Hi fellas!

My first peace of gear besides the harp is an old mic I picked up for little money. It's a '68 National WM-312 (precursor of Panasonic) stick mic with a cable and a phono-1/4 Inch Jack. I thought the shape would make it cupable and the year of birth would give it the smell of freedom and revolution.

I don't know whether it will be of any use, but it was so cheap, I couldn't let it pass.

Question: I can't find anything on the interwebs about it. Does anybody know anything?
Question 2: Can I plug this jack in an amp without problems? If not: can I somehow change the Jack for a modern one? Problem: I don't have an amp :D Perhaps on my next paycheck :)

Thanks Y'all! GAS has struck big time. Luckily, I don't have any money :D

while i don't remember this exact mic....i do recall that the early panasonic mics had pretty good sound but were a little weak volume wise. most were for reel recorders....i think

i use a voice of music recorder mic and it sounds fine....i would think the national panasonic should sound fine.

That sounds positive!

Does nobody have any experience with the old plugs?

I just received the mic, and I think I might have struck gold here! Thing looks absolutely superb, not a scratch. Then there was a sticker on the cable saying: "this mic has been set to Low Impedance. You can change it to high impedance by changing the screw in the phono-plug to H."

Then I connected it to my computer via an adapter plug (1/4 to 1/8 mono) I bought for 1 euro, and it works. At first very quiet, and after I changed the screw (just screwed it in the other end), it is loud! Can that be that easy? Just changing the direction of a screw? The mic says: dynamic microphone, and then 600Ohms - 20kOhms. That's not super-hot is it? But High-Z nonetheless?

Anyway, if you talk into it from the sides or from half a meter away, it records nothing. If your up close, you hear it fairly well, and if you cup the thing it gets very loud. Perhaps with a little bit more bass too. Should one cup the vents as well, or just the head itself? Could someone explain please?

Now I know zip about gear, but for 15 euro's, I'm very happy!
