i know it's been discussed but have not paid a lot of mind. but guess what, we had a small windfall here and i think i can afford one. what's a good yet inexpensive delay pedal for a tube amp guys?
Boss digital delays are way high. had one a long time ago and should have held onto it.
i'd like to keep this inexpensive but get good effect from it.

thoughts and experiences appreciated!

Check Craigslist for a cheap boss pedal if you liked your old one. I have a lone wolf delay, great pedal so far

You'll probably get alot of different opinions on this. I know guys who've used the budget danelectro and behringer delays and liked them well enough. If boss delays are too pricy you're probably not going to be looking at the lw harp delay or carbon copy which are two of the best overall as a general consensus

Rick Davis has a review of a delta lab delay that is pretty positive
http://bluesharpamps.blogspot.com/2009/02/deltalab-dd1-delay-pedal.html

And I have been using a Modtone Analog delay for awhile that I really like. Not going to produce wild, long delays but for a warm slap back its perfect. I have it listed for sale on the for sale page for $55 shipped. I'm looking to fund a multi effects unit so I won't need it. They go for $100 new. Just an option lol

I've been using an Ibanez DL-5 lately. It's one of those little plastic bug "soundtank" pedals. I can't remember what I paid for it, but they're usually pretty cheap if you can find one.

It's a digital delay, but it uses a different technology (1-bit) and it seems a little more organic sounding than some other digital delays. it's pretty much bare-bones -- just delay level, repeat and time controls (a maximum of 400 milliseconds, although there's a mod you can do to double that).

I like it.

I've only used a lone wolf v1. Seems to work a bit better with some amps than others, but I've not been sufficiently dissatisfied at any time to think about getting something else. Does that mean its good?
I don't think it's too expensive, you know, I only had to buy it once.

There is one company making delay pedals specifically for harp. Randy Landry and his Lone Wolf Blues Co makes a great delay pedal. Check out http://lwharpamps.com/delay.html and http://lwharpamps.com/v2delay.html
Randy is a good guy and supports this board and our community. He co-taught the "amps, mics and tone" class with me at Hill Country Harmonica this year.

I know that one pro at HCH III indicated that he liked the lone wolf delay after he tested it in front of me. I have one and can tell you it's a good pedal.

2 months in with my LW 1. I thought about it and studied it for way way long long time. Very pleased.
Would I be happy with a DM-2? Sure, but the bid BS got old, I play harp, not EBay.

Lone Wolf is the only harp specific delay.

The Lone Wolf obviously has a lot of followers, but I didn't get on with it. I found it noisy and returned mine. I now use a Zoom G3 which also gives me a host of other effects, for a similar price. Which I love!

JBone did say 'inexpensive' so two that fit into this category are the Danelectro fab echo and the Behringer DD400, from what I have read if you are just after slap back the Danelectro may do the job, but for a little more the Behringer DD400 is a copy of the Boss DM3. I don't have a any experience of either though.

I use a Carl Martin Delayla xII left over from my guitar pedal board, but it is boutique stuff and it sells well north of 4 bucks. Bought a LW V1 on a lark and it sounds every bit as good as the Martin. Save your money until you can afford LW and you will only have to cry/buy once.

Check the "for sale" page, linked from the forum FAQ page and you might find yourself a deal.

I have a one of those "Fab echo" Danelectro that I've had a in a drawer forever. I'll give it to you if you mail me your address: I guess you can communicate with me via fb. Mind you I'm not advocating it as a "good" delay and I'm sure I payed very little as an experiment and played it even less. I've tried many from the old Boss's to the T-Rex to the Lone Wolf, etc, etc. I landed on my favorite fit for my Kinder (mini-Harpking) which was (is) my Maxon AD 900 analog but they are expensive....If you ever decide to buy though: As I remember in my case Randy (lone wolf) gladly refunded my money years ago when it wasn't a great fit for me And I think "musicians friend" has a bout a 30 day refund refund policy....Anyway it's yours if you like...Sorry no other petitions from people as I'm too busy and was responding to this post per se. My best. d

I have been building up a 'light weight' rig for messing about and travelling with, so have been following this thread with interest. I looked up the Danelectro Fab Echo pedal and found it could be bought for £18 here in the UK. For that sort of money there is not a lot to loose! So I ordered one.

It arrived this morning and I have to say it is not half bad! If all you want to do is thicken your sound with a slap back effect it does the job well. There is a write up here: http://bluesharpamps.blogspot.co.uk/2008/08/review-danelectro-fab-echo-pedal.html

I know our own Isaacullah has moded his: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=It8WOGPxOoQ
but for a few more pounds you can get a more sophisticated Behinger DD400 so its probably not worth it.

For cheap and cheerful its worth a try.

Martin
