I downloaded the Nat Riddles recording this morning.
It's fantastic.I'm gobsmacked by his playing and the sound really puts you on the street right there with him and Charlie Hilbert.

Plus, I'm just gonna rip-off so many tasty licks off of this.
Wheeee!
It's a great $10 spent.

Thanks for sharing, Adam.

Can one of you explain to a total tech idiot how to download that and put the track on my iPod?

Ok. I'm a bit of a Luddite myself, but here's how I did it:

When you pay for the file it will be delivered as a "zipped" file. Download this to your desktop. Open the file, where you will see all the individual mp3 files. Grab all of them and drag them into your music "Library" in iTunes. Once they are in there, simply sync to your iPod.

Hope this helps. You need to have these.

I'm glad you guys are enjoying them. I'll confess that I didn't do an optimal job on the transfer from analog (cassette tapes) to digital. I didn't know about the Garage Band app on my MacBook, so I used a little Olympus voice recorder and it didn't have an input level control.

The result is, they're pretty close to (and sometimes over) redline.

Then when I converted the Garage Band files to mp3s, I converted them at the bitrate that somebody had decided was a good compromise on the YouTube audio tracks: 64 kb/s. This is half the sampling rate of 128 which is the industry standard for mp3s. (Jason Ricci's next to last album came as 128s when I downloaded it from iTunes.)

The result is....powerful, but maybe rawer than it needed to be. Street blues is one of the few places in this culture where this sort of thing ends up working anyway--and Nat's playing and the whole street ambience is fantastic.

But I've learned a whole lot since then, and the new Satan and Adam album reflects that.

What I'm trying to say is that somewhere down the line, I've decided to go back and remaster the whole Nat Riddles album.

When I do, I will give EVERYBODY who purchased it a chance to download the remastered version for free.

Just wanted to be honest about all this. I wanted to put Nat out there at his best; I got the job mostly done, but I'm a perfectionist and I promise you'll have....even more perfection somewhere down the line.

I totally agree with you, guys! Nat was just fantastic, and he's my favourite player. Sure,I really dig guys like SBW,Little Walter and harp-doctor Gussow, too. But to me Nat is nr 1. When I turn up my mp3-player and close my eyes,it's almost like being there myself. With the background noise, people and even a police-car or two. Killer stuff:)

Thanks Adam, it would be great to have the Nat Riddles album with the same quality as Word on the Street. I've been listen the Word on the Street album during this week, and it's great, you can imagine yourself between the crowd, besides it's a great jamming album.

This is a message I hope Mr. Gussow will read and respond to. Doesn't seem appropriate to write an Email directly, because I can imagine You'll be getting a lot of E-mail traffic if nobody uses this forum for such a thing.

Anyway. I just read in a Youtube post that You have a tape with Nat Riddles and Sterling Magee. I would looooove to be able to buy these via tradebit as I did with the other Nat Stuff (and some other stuff). Any change of that happening?

And while I'm at it. Did You ever manage to re-do the ElCafeStreet tapes to a higher resolution?

Now that I do kind of address you personally. Thanks for everything man. You make me live the dream of producing the sound that haunted me all my youth everytime I want. It's such a great gift - I really don't know how to thank You for it.. Funny how you went from 'the guy with the funny shirt's that bounces through the screen' to 'the guy with the great sounding harp' to an accompanyment (is that a word?) for so many hours of harp related soulwax.

Thank you!
