I want to try a 2x8 baffle in my fender prr just for the hell of it. I was thinking about 1 8f125-o and 1 8a125-o. Any thoughts on this possible set-up anyone?

I went through a ton of Weber 8" speakers in conjunction with my Double Trouble (2x8).

My conclusion was the best fits were the 8F125-O or regular 8F125 and the Weber Sig Ceramic S with H-dust cap.

The AlNiCo broke up far too early to get any real drive from the amp without farting out. A PRRI will probably be louder and I would personally stay away from speaker break up.

The vintage Webers are nice speakers, BUT the 8" ones are pretty warm - to the point they don't always have a lot of cut. I remember trying a 8150 and being mortified as it was so quiet (no top end or cut at all).

It was a few years ago, but I tried literally every 8" speaker on the market other than the Eminece Alpha 8. My favorite was the above mentioned Weber Sig Ceramic. The 8F125 was great too...very heavy, though.

The Jensen 8" had great bite, but no real bottom end. The Web Sig and 8F125 were a nice combo. I don't know if you have Facebook/Spotify, but I have an album on there with a band called NiteRail.

Eventually, Karma King, North Wind, Hungry Ghosts, and Splittn' at the Seams were all recorded using a DT with the Sig Ceramic and 8F125. The 8F125 was close miked and then there was a room mic.

The others were a Vibro Champ with the Sig Ceramic close miked and again with a room mic. That sound was cleaner and warmer....sorta a telephone sound that some like (I don't).

Everything I've ever recorded save a few live clips has been with the same SM57 that is now an Ultimate 57. I say that because the AlNiCo crapped out all the time using a clean dynamic mic. It is that ratty paper tearing sound....

You might like the sound at home, but a good 10" will probably work better from stage. My conclusion after trying numerous combos with 8" speakers is that they can sound great but suck for live use.

I have a HG2 with a 8" speaker and it sounds amazing. It has no chance cutting through a full band, though, but I got it planning to mic it anyways.
