Maybe there is someone with fatter acoustic tone than James Cotton. His name is Phil Wiggins. Amazing.

I don't know about fatter acoustic tone, but Phil definitely has that Miles Davis muted trumpet tone - golden and rich.

You just cant suck that damn instrument any more than what Phil Wiggins does.He got the soul in the pocket.

I was lucky enough to catch Cephus and Wiggins twice before John's passing. Phil has a unique and beautiful acoustic tone. Very rich and full indeed. He sure is playing from the soul here.

I told phil I still had the ticket from a show I saw him near knoxville in february 2000...did not know he did vocals....he told he had always played mb1896s as wallace coleman told me while talking with him at his gig

and outside of what an amazing player he is and how FAT his acoustic tone is (he said he never was good at handheld mics) Phil is such a great guy! it was so cool just hanging out with him and hearing stories... getting to share his musical perspectives adn his history. i clearly really dug HCH.
