This was a interesting project for me tonight,I been trying to firgure out ways to utilize my new Digitec RP 155,into my 1man band setup,It has a 20 second loop,(Not alot of time but it does ,do some)And it cant save loops, other than the one your using. it can be held on stanby,I decided to just lay the loop on the go,But the tricky part seems to keep time with the drums,The rp 155 has very cool sounding drum pattterns 60 to choose and you can change tempo, they sound better than any drum machine ive worked with,But it wont work with the loop effect being used,So I decided to record about 3.50 min of drums that I liked from the rp 155,I did this on my 8 track so I added a percusive rattle at around the last min then the percusive shack last 10 seconds so I would have some idea where the drums would end,I also do some rattles with a base peddal that has 2 rattles taped to it,I did everything on 1 track in real time, and only have what effects the rp was running into my PA,Im trying to get a idea on what to work on with my live sound,The trick seems to be running this setup is.
1.20 seconds of loop is short,I couldnt go into the turnaraound chord without clicking off the loop right at that point, about 10 more seconds would be great i wish th rp would do a few more seconds.
2.I have to click on and off the looped part right on time with the drums that are running in the PA seperate from the pedal, which as you can hear wasnt quite on but,Im hoping with more and more practice that will be become more natural,
3And I have to time the ending about right ,thats why I added the extra rattle and shack to try and hear, where im at.
4 I can only do this type of setup on a song if I have it worked out, because I cant save loops to work into a set,I have only one song that Ive tried this with, but i wouldnt mind doing a few more
In conclusion,I think once I learn the different ways to incorperate the loops and get the timing down,I could add variety to my 1man band setup,Im not sure ill allways use the drum machine,I have a suitcase drum made up,but for right now its fun and adds something different to work on,
Any one have any ideas as to how to improve this?Or work the loops better,Im wanting to be able to do this at a show live,Im just not sure how well it would work;-)
