Adam and I have a show together on June 30th in Mankato, MN. I don't have a gig poster for the event, and thought I'd see if any harp friends were interested in giving it a shot.
Anyone?
I can get pics, wording, etc. I am hoping to start running them for promotion ASAP - including making hard copies for around town and using the poster in online advertisements.
Obviously this is going to be a one-man-band-modern-blues min-blowout of sorts, so any cool tag lines are welcomed as well. I've already contacted local media and have distributed Adam's PR material...hoping it ends up being a pretty big deal down here!
I am pretty bummed about HCH. I am 95% sure I'll be at SPAH. I've already started planning the trip and have been in touch with SPAH about doing a seminar or two.
My day job always has a big training the week of SPAH, but as of now, I can be absent from it. I don't see that changing, so I am hoping to confirm-confirm yet this week.
I started ordering harps/combs to finish by SPAH and have for sale. I'm also hoping to do some customizing side lessons as well.
Brandon Bailey and I had talked about doing a looping demo at HCH, so I might try and talk him and SPAH into doing that again. Hohner invited me to play solo at their booth too, so we'll see.
I am torn on how much time beyond a seminar or two I'd want to devote to working on harps for people. We'll see...if I didn't have to tune reeds it'd go faster, lol.
I might solicit some collaboration later, but if anyone wanted to try and do a session, seminar, or lesson of some sort together, let me know. I am all game for teaching!
That's awesome. Is Adam just coming to Minnesota for the gig, or is he in town for some other reason and decided to schedule a gig (I guess it not really any of my business, I'm just curious)? Is there any chance of Adam leading a pre-show workshop of some kind? I'd be happy to pay an extra fee to attend a pre-show (or post-show, or whenever ) workshop with Adam, assuming there's enough harp players around here who'd be interested, to make it worthwhile for Adam.
Thanks for letting us know Mike!

HN: we should talk about the roommate thing. I was planning on staying with relatives, but with a roommate I could probably afford the Westin. Also, maybe a seminar on OBs as they relate to various positions? That's if one is not already being offered (it probably is)...
Also, harps will go in the mail today. I've got an additional one to add to the list.
Adam is playing the Deep Blues Festival the next day. I think we chatted about a seminar, but there were several blues events in town that weekend or something. I don't think Mankato would draw a ton of harp players, but I could arrange a time/spot if I am wrong. Minnesota is pretty weird regarding harmonica and blues.
@scojo
That would be awesome! I'd be willing to do an OB/OD seminar with others. Talking the technical aspects as they relate to harmonica set-up would be way cool. I think Todd Parrott and TJ Klay are doing something similar to that, but I've been out of the loop most this spring.
I keep telling myself I am going to sit down and hammer out a rock-harmonica something, but then I always get caught up working on harps. Originally, I had talked to SPAH about doing that instead, but realized it would probably be easier/better attended to do customizing stuff.
I am trying to do the custom thing as more of a panel with a couple of other guys, assuming we agree on format, but if that doesn't work out, I might do rock harmonica. ---------- Mike VHT Special 6 Mods Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas - When it needs to come from the soul...
Man, I would be all over helping out with something on rock harmonica... let's talk about that, if not this year, maybe later. You take the lead and I'll help.
Here's your inspiration for your gig poster. "Gonna take a Trip to Mankato, gonna be very lonesome. Just me and a couple of horses - a load of lumber."
@HarpNinja: I'll gladly help you out with the poster.
If you're happy for me to do it (no offence taken if you've found someone else in the meantime) just email the photos and images to 'hello(at)andrewley.co' along with any ideas you've had about style etc.
Downside is I'm on holiday and offline first week of June, so if we don't get it done in the next 10 days, I won't be available again until around June 10th.
(my dayjob is graphic designer BTW, incase you were wondering about my creds)
I knew you wouldn't be able to resist a Mankato/Little House plug, lol! Hvyj picks on me all the time since USPS tells him we are pretty much living in the days of yore.
Truth is, we are a good sized town of 53,000 an hour from the major metro.
@Andy Ley
Email sent!!! Thanks!
I know Adam and I had talked about a tag related to being modern blues and in your face - not like a throw down, but aggressive like that.
Basic concept and pics sent...included Bronze's tagline.
Kudos to Adam as the three major blues-friendly radio stations in the area were super excited to get his promo material. All three knew who I was talking about and were familiar with the music (one I believe already had him in rotation).
The biggest one out of the Cities is hosted by a blues harp player who had even read his books, lol. ---------- Mike VHT Special 6 Mods Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas - When it needs to come from the soul...
Yep. I have a really good solo gig on the 5th, but am fixated on this one, lol.
Andrew has been great in communicating ideas for a poster. I look forward to seeing what he can cook up...I asked him about doing some artwork for me too, lol.
