Harmonica scratches?

I folks I've just started getting into the use of my harmonica and have really been practicing, but I've noticed something that has bothered me from the start. After just one night of using my harp, I noticed little itty-bitty scratches just above the holes (right around where the numbers are etched into the harp). They scratches are usually vertical, but slant a little bit to the left or right, and can be found on the metal just above the holes all the way from hole 1 to hole 10.
I gather that they are there from me playing the harp, but I was wondering if anyone else has them on their harp also, if they are normal, or what I can do to prevent them.

Thanks :)

I wont say what manufacturer it is but they need to replace their die inserts or make new ones. Its nothing you have done.

Unless you have really hard sharp lips, its the manufacturer. If the harp is good otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it since it probably wont effect anything but the appearance of the harp.

Well it is a Hohner Special 20, so I thought it would be better quality than that :/ ...ah well.

I would expect no less. Hohner is legendary for their inconsistency in quality. Out of six new harps, one will be one of the best you've played, one a total dud and the rest middle of the road harps. That's how it's been for a couple decades. Though they've definitely shown some improvement in the last few years.

hi harpers,i was just wandering if anyone had any comments on the marine band deluxe range,i tend to play suzuki 350v & marine bands, the suzy's are top notch but a bit bright, and i love the tone of the MB so i'm kinda tempted to try out a delux to see if i get the quality of the suzy with the tone of the MB,any feedback would be cool coz i'm after getting a B flat harp so i can get the most out of MR GUSSOW's jam tracks[ive'got all the other keys],CHEERS GEORDIEBLUESMAN

Accually, i have been experiencing the same exact scratches. on the top above the numbers. I play Hohner Blues Harps and have a metal cover plate. so i dont think its the dye. I was wondering myself what that was, and I did a little bit of experimenting, and found that the most reasonable answer is that My teeth were hitting the harp top, very lightly. Try flipping the harp upside down and putting your teeth on the coverplate and do a couple licks. You will see the scratches.

So no... its not "friggin sharks with friigin laser beams"
