So, I was working on some harps tonight for one of the local New Orleans Players, one of which was a Marine Band in A. When I took it apart it had the usual gunk inside, and a cracked 5 draw reed, so we all know what this guys playing habits are. What was strange was the the comb was different. It had not been painted, so I figured that it was one of the new Marine Band Combs, which I thought they started making just recently. I looked at the date stamp, and it read 1012, Meaning October, 2012, which happens to be 5 months from now.
So, can someone explain to me how I have a harp, which is pretty dirty and obviously has been played for a a while, which will not be made for 5 more months??
I have not taken it apart yes to see what other mysterys it holds, nor have I asked the owner where he got it.
Does it look like this? (8 seconds in is a good shot)
I've noticed odd stamps as well. I don't have any to check right now, but I swear I've seen Crossover dates that are older than the model.
If it has the comb pictured above, then it has to be no more than a year old. I wouldn't be shocked if they did even generic stamps - so 1012 might mean anything manufactured from 1011 to 1012 and they don't change the stamps every month...just a guess. ---------- Mike VHT Special 6 Mods Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas - When it needs to come from the soul...
I had to back out due to a wedding on Saturday (it was scheduled after I had committed to HCH). I would have been done in time to make it to the headliner on Saturday, BUT there were no flights that would have me to MS before midnight on Sunday.
This actually worked out for the best as I had a family member fall seriously ill and pass this week. I'll find out the funeral details, etc, today, but I am glad I'll be around for my family-family (and not harmonica-family) this weekend.
I've been displacing my emotions by spending too much time posting longer than normal responses on MBH.
