Hello out there, I'm tuning a 48 chord harmonica to 5 limit Just Intonation. I've got my ratios correct for the Major, Dominant 7th, and minor chords but i can't seem to find any info on how to intonate an Aug chord.

Now my insticnt tells me that the Root and Third of the chord will be the same as in a major triad. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm really trying to find what the raised fifth is supposed to be tuned to and unfortunatley i don't have time for trial and error. Anyone know? Any ideas? Anyone ever tuned one of these before?

Thanks,

----------

I've never actually tried doing that in JI, but what you may want to do is get another harmonica, preferably a cheapo diatonic and retune it using mainly your ear and then listen carefully for when the beating stops and then measure it against a good quality tuner, preferably a strobe tuner. One guy you may want contact would be Pat Missin and his site is http://www.patmissin.com.

Most JI schemes (major key anyway), usually have the 5th of the chord (based on the root note of the instrument, such as C being root note of a C harp, as an example), and the 5th of the chord is usually going to be 2 cents sharp in a straight major chord.

One other place you might consider is going to http://petersontuners.com and they often can be quite helpful.

I sent you an e-mail offlist. Wally Peterman is the guy you need on this. He knows as much about tuning chord harmonicas as Werner Von Braun knew about rockets. He's an excellent chord player and a tuning genius.
