I thought it might be good to have a topic where harp players in different countries could connect in this forum and then maybe meet face-to-face. I'll start: I live in New York, but I'm about to spend three months in Budapest (March to mid-May), with my wife and daughter. If there are any Hungarian harp players out there who would like to get together for a little jamming, let me know. -Jordan

Hey everybody, Eric from Mexico here, you know what would be a really neat thing to have? Some form of chart with our locations around the world. Nothing specific, but useful in those kinds of travels and isolated places. I think its possible to do it with Google Earth for example but the details elude me, anybody has an idea? Nice to have a place to discuss this!

I've lived in New Zealand, Australia and England and have yet to meet anyone who PLAYS the harp yet alone teaches it. Thanks to grandmaster Gussow its a relief to see all these players coming out of the woodwork! Perhaps due to the instruments discreetness I have been surrounded by great players and never even known!

G'day Neil here, I live in a small town called Nairne in South Australia. I first come across the blues harp in Vietnam where a Yank soldier was playing one and he put me onto Paul Butterfield and the rest is history, regards to all.

Hey Ya'll Just got back from Shanghai and had a great night at the Cotton Club there. Great club with great haouse band. On Tuesday nights they have a open mic night, very much a good time, not your average mic nite. They loved the harp sound, guess they don't see many of us. So if you go, stop in and see greg, tell him Steve from Boston sent ya, and blow em away!

Hey there! Am out of Gloucester, MA USA (home of the Perfect Storm). Once played with a jazz style oompah band at a Beer Fest in Augsburg, Germany where I lived for 7.5 years. The band leader was a trumpet player and we had a good time batting riffs off each other. Cool thing is I was just getting into SB Williamson and was blowing some of his riffs. I was told the audience was banging their liter beer mugs on the tables while we were playing! Best to all, Chipper

Welcome to all you harp players! Our instrument truly is an international thing. Invented in China, manufactured in Germany (and the US, and several other places), played around the world.
I hope this thread will endure.....It might become a place where every new contributor to this forum checks in, lets us know where he/she is from.
I started playing in my hometown, Congers NY (near NYC), in 1974. Considered myself a NYC harp player for many years. Now residing in Oxford, Mississippi: one hour by car from Clarksdale, heart of the Delta.

Burbank, California. Lucky to have a strong local Blues (L.A.) scene, and lots of great local harp players (Kim Wilson, Rod Piazza etc., etc.) I'm still missing the late great William Clark whom I was lucky enough to meet and rap with for a while.

Just started a Blues Jam night here near Belfast. It's amazing the number of musicians that aren't in bands coming out of the woodwork. Seriously recommend it wherever you are. And cheers to AG for bringing us all together through this website.

Yes, Carl...Dutch and lost in the Blues. K1 fan and probably more experience in martial arts then music. Age and some injuries made me make the move to bluesharp...wish I had made the move much earlier... But then again...it's never too late to try something new...

I'm in upstate NY, around the capital region (Albany). Picked up the harp late in life,I'm 50ish (decided to stop counting at about 35)though I've always loved rock 'n roll (the Blues first cousin). Trying to play catch up and it ain't easy.
Based on Adam's "What level are you?" chart, he'd probably say I'm somewhere between an advanced beginner and an intermediate, which would be okay, except I first picked up the instrument about 4-5 years ago. Needless to say, I haven't put in nearly enough time woodshedding to develop into an excellent player. I can't seem to find the joy in practicing, maybe it's my age, I don't know.
What I do know is that if I hadn't stumbled upon Adam's you tube page about a year ago, I'd have probably given up. And that's the highest compliment I can pay the man, though I'm sure he'd appreciate some cash (wink, wink). Seriously though, for all you fellow beginers: its all there..... on Adam's YT site and on MBH. If you've got the time, the desire and a little bit of talent that is.
Christ, I'm a long winded fuck. If you're still with me, a hearty kudos and thanks to Adam for his generosity, and to all the posters on this forum, whose tips and advice have been aces.
Keep on honkin on bobo. I know I will.
